A fight between two mediocre boxers, one a bit better than the other.

Sadly, mediocre boxers like these two have world titles, because there are so many belts and divisions.

I missed the fight, so not sure how he looked today, but Andrade isn't a mediocre boxer.

Agreed. Freedom 2013 hates US boxers, especially black fighters. Given the lack of recent activity and fighting on Culcay's home turf it was a decent outing for Andrade, who clearly won the fight despite the ridiculous split verdict. He'll look better when he gets more active. Not a bad day's work when you can travel to another continent and win a world title in a stay-busy fight!!

Given the lack of recent activity and fighting on Culcay's home turf it was a decent outing for Andrade, who clearly won the fight despite the ridiculous split verdict. He'll look better when he gets more active. Not a bad day's work when you can travel to another continent and win a world title in a stay-busy fight!!

His opponent was definitely mediocre. Andrade had to take him out or at least totally dominate. He looked like they were on the same level.

Culcay has a solid chin & Andrade is definitely NOT a heavy-hitter. 8 rounds to 4 is not a domination, but it was definitely clearcut. No way it should have been split decision.

Andrade will use this as a learning experience and a unification bout with Charlo back home would be a competitive matchup. A bout with Lara would probably be closer than you might expect given the fact that both Lara & Andrade were very competitively matched with Vanes Martirosyan. I'd still give a slight edge to the Cuban if he fights Andrade.

I think if he gets busier, fights regular and pushes himself hard in the gym and takes it serious, the talent is certainly there for him to be a good fighter.

As I said earlier, you still have to give him credit for getting the job done in Germany. But he looked flat. Hopefully see him in more fights testing himself more regularly now

I assume you mean Jermell Charlo?

I haven't seen a great deal of him, I'm guessing he's the weaker of the 2 as the hype seems to follow his brother.

With Jermell and Hurd holding titles at 154, there are winnable options for Andrade and either one should sell well enough

Andrade-Culcay was originally scheduled for November 5 of last year and the 4-month delay was definitely beyond Andrade's control:

In his first public comments on the brouhaha involving Demetrius Andrade’s torpedoed title bout with Jack Culcay on Saturday, promoter Artie Pelullo, who handles Andrade, said he remains committed to seeing the fight through with Culcay on a future date and is waiting on a ruling by the WBA to determine what is next for the two boxers.

“Nov. 5 is not happening in Germany,” Pelullo told RingTV.com on Wednesday of Andrade’s challenge for Culcay’s secondary 154-pound title, which was not to be shown on American television. “Now the WBA is going to make a ruling and we’re waiting for that ruling to see what the next steps are for the Andrade-Culcay fight on when the fight will happen. We remain committed to fighting for the WBA title.”

There are several options for what could possibly happen next. The WBA could potentially strip Culcay if it deems he was at fault for pulling out of the Nov. 5 date, though this seems unlikely. The WBA could also order a second purse bid after Culcay won the first auction in August with an offer of $425,144, though that wouldn’t be fair to the Andrade camp. Another scenario is the WBA could just rule that promotional control of the fight goes to the runner-up bid, which would be Pelullo and co-promoter Joe DeGuardia.

“Nothing has changed,” Pelullo said. “Demetrius Andrade is the best 154-pounder in the world and we’re going to get this fight. He’s going to beat Jack Culcay and defend the WBA title several times.”
