Golovkins jab won him the fight for me too. I've never been a huge punch stats guy as they don't always tell the story but when you factor in the stats, the knockdown, the flow of the fight there is really no case to be made for Jacobs in my opinion. It was a good close fight, but the winner was clear.

Compubox is garbage, less so in a fight like this without really dominant rounds. Do they at least use tv when they click their button?

The winner was not clear this was the type of fight decision that reasonably could have gone either way.
7 rounds to 5 for either fighter or 6 rounds for each, which is pretty much how the judges scored it.
Good job to the judges and I hope I get to say that more often.

My personal scorecard read 114-113 Jacobs but I felt like I had been generous to BOTH fighters after a few rounds. I have absolutely no problem with the decision.

As for the fight overall:
I was in the camp that completely underestimated Jacobs. I thought GGG would KO Jacobs the first time he landed a clean shot on him. After last night I stand corrected, Jacobs proved beyond any reasonable doubt that he does not have a glass chin. He is at worst the second best middleweight at the moment.

GGG: I don't believe he looked diminished, old or whatever people are trying to say. He was in the ring with a good boxer who had all the physical advantages. Jacobs is bigger, younger, in his prime, athletic, faster, had the reach advantage, is heavy handed and the one weakness he supposedly had coming into the fight turned out to be false. GGG was in a tough fight with a real opponent and found a way to come out on top.

It was a darn good fight too, not fight of the year but still an excellent fight.

Let's face it, very few people predicted this fight. It was down to tactics, and the Jacobs corner outsmarted the Golovkin corner. Top level prep.

I'd give it to GGG because if its close then boxing needs to reward the fighter going forward. Boxing, as far as the public are concerned is fighting. The public will not enjoy paying good money to watch a Chess match. Having said that I'm sure that if GGG had taken a step back then Jacobs would have moved in. He showed great control in sticking to the game plan.

We didn't get a war, just a great boxing match. This fight will be appreciated more once the dust settles.

Jacobs himself may have trouble getting fights after this.

How come Jacobs lost then? Golovkin's corner just selected a safe way to win, and it worked. Of course, they were hoping that Jacobs won't take one of Golovkin's shots, and it appeared to we wrong, but they still won.

I wonder who Jacobs will fight next?

Perhaps one of Haymon's fighters? Or will he move up to 168?

Loeffler has mentioned negotiations for Saunders-Golovkin on June 10, but I don't think Saunders will be brave enough to do it.

I thought... Golovkin just got the job done but lost rounds, it was very close. It was his worst performance and he looked very lethargic. What I think is special about Golovkin is his offensive combos. He can touch you up lightly, get you to move or react and then at the end of the combo threw a bomb in. He didn't do that. Everything he threw had juice on it. No matter how old you are, throwing everything into a punch will tire you out. He was a headhunter a trap a lot of puncher fall into. Lot of pressure for him to retain his KO steak. I would like to see him take a step back. Obviously he's very experienced and there's that saying you can't teach a dog new tricks, but Sanchez said Golovkin used to be a fighter like Klitschko, very much behind his jab. If there's a rematch with Jacobs I believe he should concentrate more on winning rounds, landing punches then landing a KO blow, it will most likely come, its Golovkin after all. He's gone 12 rounds, it was a very good pace for someone putting everything on there shots and also being defensively sound. Jacobs on the other hand, he came to go the distance, he game to unsettle Golovkin rhythms with explosive volume and speed more than power. Very smart performance by him. Will be very interesting his (Golovkins) next fight, which I hope is a rematch.

Only viewed it on my phone. Appears that judges got it right but I need to see it on my theater screen.

The first half of the fight was circling and stalking with the occasional flurry, and the knock down in the 4th, which had GGG dominating the first half. But only just.

It was obvious to me that GGG was not on his game and stalked well, cut off the ring well, but just didn't throw many combinations at all, he seemed ponderous, which allowed Jacobs space to grow in confidence, and that's when Jacob's started throwing a lot more.

What was telling after the fight was when Max Kellerman (in his bizarre style of voice) asked GGG why he didn't throw more punches, or why he didn't get the KO, something like that; and Golovkin replied "I am not killer this is boxing".
On the other hand, Jacobs in his interview, said "after the knockdown, he was gonna have to kill me to get me outta there".

I can be certain that Golovkin needs to start working on committing to his offense more if he's going to keep fighting the best, when and if he comes up against a blown up Canelo, who thrives on planting his feet and throwing excellent combinations, then standing there and shaking your head, is not going to win the fight.

Usually GGG looks a lot better better in his fights though...The extremely wide waistband on his trunks looked really odd and made him look shorter... Just poorly designed and whoever made the trunks needs to be fired... Except for the 4th round where he loosened up and fought a lot better, He looked tighter than Hell... I had GGG winning 115-112 and thought he had it salted away well before the end -- but Jacobs finished very strongly with growing confidence.

Agreed. I think GGG respects Jacobs more than he does his typical opponent in more ways than one. I didn't pay much attention to the post fight interview, but that's what it seemed to me - lot's of respect. GGG doesn't respect Canelo nowadays, so you'd think he'd be more active but I don't know. GGG is a strange case to pin down, with his broken English, apparent split personality and tendency to go into sparring mode in most of his recent fights. To me he's become either bored or just so used to taking his time to eventually catch and KO his opponent that he doesn't even bother with a gameplan, much less a plan b. He's simply never needed it.

Yeah Jacobs was hitting elbows high defensive guards that may have looked to some as scoring shots, yes it counts as an attack shot but if blocked loses point juice.
GGG scored the knockdown got clipped with a couple of shots also, Golovkin did look wary of the power.

Now we have had arguably the top 2 Eastern fighters in Kovalev and Golovkin go up against a brother from Oakland and Brooklyn and been held.

115 112 GGG. Jacobs gave away too many rounds early including the 10 8 round. Good fight, would pay to see a rematch.

Very good fight. I had it 114-113 golovkin. The knockdown was the deciding factor. Golovkin stalked well but I think Jacob's size and reach advantage were just enough to keep ggg from getting too aggressive plus it seems that in the center of the ring Jacob's got the better of the majority of exchanges. Also switching from southpaw to orthodox back and forth kept ggg guessing. That being said I think ggg did a Great job pushing forward and keeping the jab in the face of jacobs which I feel Jacob's didn't utilize enough. All in all with the fight before it was definetly worth the money and id pay to see a rematch with that and the choclatito rematch with the Thai.

All 3 judges give GGG round 1 on what basic what that GGG is the Champion because in round 1 there was not a dogs hair between the both fighter's so GGG the Champ so he gets the round for old time sake what a lot of sh.t same as round 12 that Kellerman made the deciding round a load of sh.t again I watched round 12 last night in slow motion pathetic just give the so called deciding round to GGG :D pathetic I backed GGG I feel bad taking the money well almost its early 2017 and i'm already over this sh.t

Jacobs did little more than circle the ring in round 1, and GGG was landing some good jabs. You must really be going hard for Danny if you're making an issue out of that round.

They both won, Kovalev a bit more widely than Golovkin, thankfully the judges were more honest in New York than Las Vegas.

Kovalev 116-111 on my card, I can see 115-112
Golovkin 114-113 on my card, I can see 115-112

But your right, both Ward and Jacobs did a lot of holding to survive being KOed.
