Cazlaghe went to cardiff to newcastle in december 03 to fight pudwill by train, i think he will do the same this time to scotland

how many public planes crash in britain form cardiff to scotland a year? None is my guess.

I think he went by train when he fought in Newcastle...but I could be wrong.

I don't doubt he will fight in Edinburgh, but he could at least show some effort for the Scottish fans.

I'd like to say that this is getting beyond a fecking joke, but I think we wnet past that satge a few years back...

Too busy sh@gging slappers no doubt, you'd think he'd have learned his lesson from missing out on the IBF 175 title shot because of his philandering - back injury my foot.....

I think the fact he was going through a messy divorce probably didn't help.

Calzaghe has never fought anyone any good or in there prime, it suddenly occurred to me while i was fixing a strip light at work this morning...Eubank was getting on and in the decline...Brewer had always lost to the very best fighters...Mitchell was coming off the back of an Ottke loss and two knockdowns to blown up Light Middle Julio Cesar Green...and the one man arguably in his prime Robin Reid, well i had Joe losing and so did one judge.

I didn't like Ottke and Beyer when they were around but come on, Ottke fought Mundine, Markussen, Glen Johnson, Larsen etc and Beyer went in with Green and Lucas. Now regardless of dodgy decisions etc at least they actually fought these guys.

Instead of all these bums why doesn't Warren save his pennies and get someone like Markussen or Larsen over here? Both are a test, neither are afraid to travel (both fought Ottke and beat up Danilo Haussler)...so why not?!

Salem-Calzaghe almost set!

Contracts for the October 22 WBO super middleweight title clash between defending champion Joe Calzaghe (37-0, 30 KOs), of Newbridge, Wales and WBO #6-rated Kabary "The Egyptian Magician" Salem (23-3, 12 KOs), of Brooklyn, NY will be signed today, according to Salem and his manager Nedal Abuhumoud. Salem is coming off a split-decision loss to German Mario Veit on May 8 in Dortmund, Germany. When asked how he thought this fight came about, Salem stated, "Joe Calzaghe saw me lose my last fight in Germany. I didn't look that good, and Joe probably said 'let me take him.' I am glad because I always thought I would fight him one day."

The bout will take place at the Royal Highland Showground in Edinburgh, Scotland. Salem, who was born in Egypt, is no stranger to fighting in Europe. He fought a "no contest" with Rudy Markussen in a WBO title eliminator last March 13 in Copenhagen, Denmark. The bout was stopped in the first round due to a cut sustained by Markussen that was caused by an accidental headbutt. "I tried to finish him," said Salem. "Every time I would get inside, the referee (Pete Podgorski) broke us up. He would adjust the tape on the glove, and he would stop it every time I got inside."

Salem also had referee problems in his last fight against Mario Veit. Salem said, "He (Manuel Maritxalar) spoke Spanish and no English at all. We couldn't understand each other." Salem was docked two points by the ref early on in the close title bout, presumably due to miscommunication between the fighter and the referee. At one point, Salem and Maritxalar accidently clashed heads, and the referee suffered a broken nose!

Salem's manager, Nedal Abhumoud, commented on the 3 options given to promoter allegedly in the event Salem pulls off the upset. He said, "Its crazy isn't it? That's OK because there is no money for Salem here in the States. He has to go overseas to make any money. They like him over there. He sold a lot of tickets in Germany."

Abuhumoud, who also manages Omar Sheika and Nurhan Suleyman, among others, likes Salem's chances against the left-handed Calzaghe. "Salem fought a lot of southpaws. If you look at his record, he fights better against southpaws than he does against rightys," he said. "He probably frustrates Calzaghe. Lots of guys get frustrated when they fight Salem," continued Abuhumoud.

Salem, who is trained by Willie Vargas, has the seasoning and the big fight experience, and should not be intimidated by the dominant champion. This could be the career-defining bout for Salem, provided he can steer clear of the referee.
