Re: Ricky Hatton: Not his 50th fight if Mayweather fights McGregor...

It's far-fetched even by the standards of boxing. I don't get it.
Ricky Hatton didn’t duck Junior Witter.RScarf1 wrote:Ricky Hatton also ducked Junior Witter. Really? What terrible performance was this? Witter knocked out Vivian Harris in 2007. Witter lost by split decision to Timothy Bradley in 2008. Hatton knocked out Jose Luis Castillo in 2007, but Castillo was in decline. A Hatton vs. Witter bout would have been lucrative, but instead, Hatton got fried by Mayweather.Enlightened-One wrote:Ricky Hatton didn’t duck Junior Witter.RScarf1 wrote:Ricky Hatton also ducked Junior Witter. The ‘Hitman’ had written into his contract with Fwank Warren that he’d face his fellow Brit, but when Witter delivered a terrible performance when he was on the undercard of one of Ricky’s fights, Sky and Showtime stated that they didn’t want to broadcast the match-up.
Between 2005 and 2007, Hatton had bigger more lucrative fish to fry.
It's Fwank Warren's story and he implied it was Witter's fourth round European title win over Jeurgen Hack.RScarf1 wrote:Really? What terrible performance was this?Enlightened-One wrote:Ricky Hatton didn’t duck Junior Witter.RScarf1 wrote:

It's an interesting point. I don't think that Floyd will get credit for 50 wins in most people's eyes but if he makes $250 million then he's not going to care much about it.Enlightened-One wrote:Ricky Hatton: ‘I wouldn’t call it the 50th if Floyd Mayweather fights Conor McGregor’ (Source: Boxing News)
Hatton stated, “I wouldn’t call it a 50th if he fights McGregor and that’s no disrespect to Conor. Every time a boxer goes in UFC, he doesn’t do anything. If he [McGregor] goes in boxing I think the same thing would happen... I just don’t think it’s a good idea. If it does happen, I wouldn’t call it Mayweather’s 50th.”
In my opinion, if Money May does end up defeating Conor McGregor, it would have to be counted as a legitimate victory, enhancing his professional record to 50-0, because he would have competed in an officially-sanctioned boxing match where Floyd faced a licensed opponent possessing an ability level that would be at least on a par with a journeyman.
Thoughts?
Can I be that sure a 41 year old Federer would beat the best ping pong player in the world, if he played him at tennis?caldo2025 wrote:It's an interesting point. I tell you what, you have to be pretty damn confident to take a fight like this if you're Floyd. You are going to be 41 years old. Taking on a 28 year old stud like Conor. I know that everyone says that it's going to be a mess and Conor will get thumped and they are probably correct but how can you be THAT sure about a thing like that?
Eh? De La Hoya was a super welter when Ricky became light welter champRandomUsername wrote:Shameful how Ricky Hatton ducked Oscar De La Hoya.
I know, I know...no shot ha? But in Boxing, one shot is all that it takes and the cream doesn't necessarily rise to the top inside the ring. Sanders knocking out Wlad happened and on paper, that was about as likely as Federer and the ping pong analogy (which i liked btw).Counter-puncher wrote:Can I be that sure a 41 year old Federer would beat the best ping pong player in the world, if he played him at tennis?caldo2025 wrote:It's an interesting point. Yes.

Mayweather has spent his life facing guys with far better accuracy, more smarts, more boxing talent and better technique than McGregor has. In that time he's shipped about a dozen big shots, and took them all.
Unless his defensive nous and reflexes have dropped off by 80% then he'll absolutely stroll through a fight with McGregor. I wouldn't be surprised to see Mayweather stop him early, say after 2/3 rounds, after making him look like a complete novice.
