Arguably Gammer vs Krence was as bad as Gammer vs Steeds.

There are possibly about 10 British heavyweights who'd beat these pair. Sexton has gotten a title shot just by hanging around and Cornish on the back of one 'impressive' performance against Joshua!

Good god I forgot that one even happened. Krence coming off 3 stoppage losses and had also previously lost to a 4-0 Audley Harrison, and had been stopped by Gammer - thus he gets a British title fight against Gammer.

In situations such as Sexton/Cornish, or Scott Gammer, I'd be happy to leave the belt vacant until a suitable contest arises. How badly does the BBBoC need a sanctioning fee?

I'm still going to watch this fight, if I have the chance. I like the fact the title isn't lying fallow.

People on this forum don't give Gary enough credit. He completely outboxed Joshua for 50 seconds and made him look like a novice. He has given Wlad the blueprint to beat AJ. Had he not been caught by a lucky punch we would've seen a Scottish champion and the hype train derailed.

Cornish is world class and he should be in the top 10 by the end of the year.

A Cornish - Klitschko superfight will have the world salivating at a genuine 50 / 50 fight.

Could Cornish be the first billion dollar athlete? I think so

Maybe if Cornish and Sexton acted like colossal prats like some British heavyweights I could mention, they would get a bit more credit.

It's not a great fight for the British Heavyweight title I admit, but both men have only fought 6 round fights since their last loss but Cornish has been the busier fighter, having almost the same amount of fights as Sexton has as a professional but started fighting in 2011 (sexton started in 2005).

Either way it will get defended by either man, Cornish needing a platform to build on to chase the world level and Sexton hopefully wanting to defend a title he's fought for and come up short for in the past.

With potential match ups with Chisora or Whyte for a big fight for the British title or title defences against up and coming fighters like Gorman, Webb and Allen. It could only be a big win for either man now

sexton for me is more durable

1 congratulations to Paul Graham for securing a British heavyweight title fight for a Scottish boxer.

2. If Dillian Whyte doesn't feel the need to hold onto his countries title, then too bad, he'll not be missed.

3 No matter the circumstances the winner will ALWAYS be able to say they were the British Heavyweight champion, something Frank Bruno , for example , will never be able to do.

4 There are only three and a half heavyweights in this country who are guaranteed to beat Cornish - Joshua, Whyte, Haye and Bellew. Tyson Fury's still retired and Hughie plus Chisora would have their work cut out although would be favourites to win.

I have to disagree both Hughie and del boy would beat Cornish easily and I would put a lot of cash on Lewison and Gorman stopping him too. Having said that I think he may be too much for Sexton who hasn't fought anyone of quality in recent years.

Big Frank could probably beat Cornish in his panto outfit

Yes Big Frank in his panto outfit might easily beat Cornish, that is of course providing that Cornish didn't land flush on Franks glass jaw and send him staggering around the ring like a new born deer! And it 'might' be the case that Cornish will have a photo of himself wearing a Lonsdale Belt around his waist.
The Cornish v Sexton fight will go the full 12 rounds, the result will be very close, but I just think with the crowd keeping him going, and Billy Nelsons experience, the big Highlander might just make it.

That's not mocking a fighter. I don't like AJ. Fury was about 25stone- that's a legitimate observation, and Scottish boxing shows are mismatches.

They are incomparable to laughing and mocking the abilities of boxers.

You're not criticising boxers you're belittling and mocking them. There's a difference between pointing out for instance Tyson Fury carries his left hand too low and leave himself exposed for a a right cross and ridiculing the abilities of a fighter and encouraging others to ridicule them.

Yes, I think Gary Cornish could replicate what Mike Tyson, Lennox Lewis and Tim Witherspoon did as well. Dalculmly, aren't you a boxing writer? The quality of your analysis has to be brought into question!

I like this fight and I remember when it was spoken about a year or so ago for an eliminator thinking it would be a great way to see where Gary was at neither are big punchers and both like to try and box.

Then with the coaching team he had around him I would have fancied Sam Sexton to outbox Gary as he couldn't use his height/reach and jab properly but with him now training with Billy Nelson who will get him in great shape and also work on his basics better i.e. the jab and straight right hand he should be much better at keeping his distance and using his height/reach advantages add this to the fact that he is getting sparring with Stevie Simmons on a regular basis means I would have Gary as a slight favourite now.

It's a shame that Sam Sexton hasn't been more active because his skill set is pretty decent, he doesn't have KO power and this is one of the main reasons I have Gary slight favourite because it's harder to keep sharp when you are technical whereas if you can bang someone out you can always take someone out if you catch them clean.

Looking forward to the fight itself and hopefully Gary can win the Lonsdale belt.
