He'd have a very good chance.

How often is the rematch a clone of the first match?

Loads would change.

Your "Don't see what would change going forward." comment seems very ugly to me.
Ugly? You're such a drama queen
Fortunately he seems to have stopped calling Joshua a 'sinister character'.

Josh beats the old guy again. Wlad's not getting any better at this point...

He doesn't need to get better, he might just need to change his tactics a bit.

He almost had him the first time. No reason to think that he can't get him the second time.

True, and I believe that with more aggression he could've stopped AJ in the 6th, but I think chances are significantly higher that AJ makes the greater improvements and repeats.

If Wlad isn't going to retire, I would like the old guy to face Parker instead of doing it again with a young monster like AJ.

Do you think that Joshua would come in lighter for a rematch?

I can't see Joshua's stamina improving much if he comes in so heavy again. But would that negatively affect other areas of his game?

The rematch would be fascinating and possibly no less entertaining than the first.

I'm not sure why any boxing fan wouldn't want to see the rematch.

Yeah, I think Joshua has more he can improve from the first fight. If there's a rematch I would confidently pick Joshua to win, whereas I wasn't confident at all with the first fight.

I agree. I'd like to see him lighter next time regardless of who it is. I thought he looked pretty slow against Wlad.

The rematch could end up being another classic but was that Wlads last hurrah? I'd like to see Wlad retire personally but if he was to take the rematch on I'd look forward to it. It's intriguing.

If they fight again in six months time for example, Wlad is six months further in decline and AJ is still in his prime.

It's hard to say a guy who's had nineteen fights is in his prime. I think it's obvious Joshua can improve; he'll never be a slick mover but his major problem on Saturday was going for broke in the fifth when he should have calmed down and taken his time.

He'll learn from that. Still not averse to a rematch - the first fight was great. But I'd like to see Wlad retire.

i also doubt it. Klitschko has adopted a safety first style most of his career, clearly not wanting to get hit. While he put up a brave stand and showed greatness in defeat, he took the kind of big punches that I doubt he will want to take ever again. Especially considering he's 41.

Remember Wlad's stamina problems in the Puritty (when he was around Joshua's age but with more fights) and Brewster I fights?

When he gassed he never recovered.

Joshua's quiet spell was a huge cause for concern but he pulled himself out of it and I'm sure he can find ways to improve.

You're right, but I was thinking more about his age. As a 27 year old he's still a baby in heavyweight terms but as an athlete, he's likely to be in better nick than a 41 year old who's got plenty of miles on the clock.

I kind of think going for broke is what more people needed to do against Wlad.

There were some powerful heavyweights for big promoters likeUniversum and Sauerland who in the past 7 or 8 years should've been challenging Wlad one after the other - and not only that, but going for it, trying to put some kind of dent in Wlad.

Obviously it's reckless and dangerous to do this

Rarely does a rematch pan out in the exact same way - especially if it's an exciting fight. Often fighters are more careful if they've had a back and forth fight (exceptions of course, E.G. Gatti Ward.)

But I see a Joshua win - I just can't imagine Wlad being so fit and up for it as he was in the first fight. His mind games won't be effective either. Joshua was under enormous pressure in his first massive fight and test. Any doubts he had must've evaporated. As soon as Wlad tired, Joshua's shots, which Wlad had generally evaded started to get close then hit home.

I think the fight will be less exciting and Joshua will be leading on points as Wlad tires.... resulting in a stoppage win or even Wlad retiring on his stool.

I don't think a rematch will be as good as the original, they rarely are most of the time. Wlad may likely revert to his old jab and grab routine as he already lost a shootout to AJ who will probably be more cautious too having come perilously close to getting stopped first time out.

it all depends really on who improves their tactics from the first fight, Joshua brought a completely new level of power to the fight and it won the night for him but it had a big draw back when Klitschko started to box smarter and control the fight, the judges had him winning until Joshua threw everything he had left at him to get the win.
Joshua really needs to improve his stamina and ability to carry that power and he'll be almost unstoppable as the heavyweight scene stands now.

Klitschko on the other hand, needs to start stronger and really go in for the KO when he had the chance, he rocked Joshua and could have won it in round 6 but, even in his own words he admitted he didn't think Joshua was going to get up but when he did Klitschko was shocked.
Boxing ability - no improvement needed since even with his advanced age he out boxed a much younger champion. Tactics - arguable if they need improving or not but his power and ability to finish may need improvement.

Klitschko would be my choice to win the re-match, experience told in the last fight that he isn't finished and after coming within a round of winning back the world titles he held so long he has e very chance to do it again.
Joshua is a power house in the heavyweight division and thanks to their fight a lot of people have taken notice again, win or lose Joshua is only going to become a bigger name as time goes on.

If he came out looking for an early KO Joshua would take him out again.

Wlad landed the perfect punch, and it may have taken a few rounds, but Joshua recovered, roughed him up and took him out.

He's not going to land a better punch than that right cross he dropped Joshua with. And I'm not certain he can outpoint AJ considering the majority of his work consists of feint, threats, prods and paws.

I'm not convinced Wlad takes the rematch after being beaten up following so many tame fights in which he was able to fight on his own terms. Wlad played his role in a dramatic (based on those amazing three rounds) changing of the guard fight and I doubt it gets any better for him.

I disagree that WK should push for the KO. Klitschko isn't a natural finisher unless the fight is completely on his own terms . When he threw too many shots against Ross Puritty and in the first fight with Lamon Brewster - and this is when he was pretty young and fit - he was punched out, gassed and taken out by brave but pedestrian opposition.

He landed one if the best shots of his career on AJ who got up, survived, pulled himself together and went through Wlad.

Wlad seems to control the fight when they trade straight shots but he seems very vulnerable to the winging ng punches, the hooks and the uppercuts.

Whilst the sensible call is that AJ wins the rematch - Wlad really was only a punch away from winning. He had Joshua there for the taking and let him off the hook - can he change that - it's hard to see how he can change his character, but the margins were so fine between triumph and disaster for Wlad.

Is it really in Klitschko's nature, his temperament, to go for the kill?

He looks about as comfortable coming forward after hurting an opponent as, say, Chris Eubank or Bernard Hopkins.

Plus there is the worry of punching himself out which he's done in spectacular fashion before, that way of imploding and being there for the taking.

I'm so happy someone young, strong, powerful, big - and serious about conditioning basically took his best punch and mugged him to a stoppage victory.
