Expect AJ PPV to be priced at £25 next time out
It means a lot, Crusader. I've not heard a fight in England between two non Americans mentioned before. It's just completely unheard of - to me.crusader wrote:I don't think a cursory mention on the radio means too much, and it's not like AJ will stand out in the US for being a big, athletic black guy.
We'll have to agree to disagree, matecrusader wrote:Americans have seen about a zillion big, athletic black guys, and I don't think adding a British accent changes things much.
It could be argued that Golovkin is sort of financially a nomad. And Klitschko had to bend over for the first time, otherwise he'd still be fighting in Germany. As he said though, even after loosing to Fury, everything just got bigger & better for him. The Fury loss was a blessing for him in a way.Crease wrote:I disagree. They big money in boxing is in the UK. All sorts of fighters want to fight over here - including Golovkin and Klitschko.SAPFO wrote:You know for a fact Eddie wants to mix it as the main man in Vegas & New York.
Could AJ be PPV in the USA? His biggest feck up the other night was thanking every country but the USA.
He keeps getting mistaken for LeBron Jameslillywhite14 wrote:They have seen a zillion big athletic black guys, but they haven't seen any that can really fight and knock people out for a good ten years though have they!?
Big, aggressive exciting heavyweights will always be popular, especially in the USA. The promotion teams need to get it going.
What's Wilder's popularity like in the US? Do they see him as a bit of a fraud?

I agree the UK is consistently putting on big shows, which in turn equals big money. But these are only big in the UK.
True. It's mainly the Hispanics who are interested.forcefraser wrote:Boxing is small time in the states. I would wager your average yank has no ideal who Wilder is.
His numbers are decent by current American standards, but hardly through the roof, and nowhere near the level of someone whose reach goes beyond people who are already boxing fans. The only fighters who have done that in the States recently are Manny, Floyd, Canelo, and maybe Cotto, and the latter two have built in Hispanic fan bases, while the first two built their profiles majorly through fighting Oscar. I'm not sure if a casual, uneducated viewer could differentiate much between Wilder beating up a scrub, and Joshua stopping a top HW like Wlad.lillywhite14 wrote:They have seen a zillion big athletic black guys, but they haven't seen any that can really fight and knock people out for a good ten years though have they!?

These fights are huge throughout the other countries that hold HRH Liz as their reigning monarch.
The AJ fight was huge in Australia, South Africa, New Zealand, Canada, Jamaciamon, etc etc
Wilder is selling out 5,000+ venues throughout Alabama!
About time we had a show in the Millennium stadium again, and I'm virtually guaranteed to get tickets due to a family connection so Stubhub can eff offlillywhite14 wrote:Pulev in front of 60k in Cardiff is being talked about! He is the biggest star in British sport now
I really hope he doesn't go to America but if he does he has a multiple fan base of Hatton already.
Never in my lifetime did I think more people would travel to Vegas for a British fighter but then came aj
Monster events for every fight from now on
His next move should be joining that annoying fat pudendum James Corden on his chat show. He somehow seems to have made a bit of a splash in the States. Would be good exposure
They wouldnt need to build him. He's already built.TheCobra wrote:Don't understand anyone saying that. What have ITV proved in terms of ability to build a boxer, build a profile, do the PR and get someone to superstar level? ITV don't give a crap about boxing. Matchroom have done a great job with Joshua, whether you like Hearn or not, him and Matchroom are good at what they do.IT wrote:Joshua should eff Matchroom off and head off over to ITV now they have PPV.
A lot of damage? The guy did huge PPV numbers. Particularly impressive because he's black and not Hispanic.Taansend wrote:True. It's mainly the Hispanics who are interested.forcefraser wrote:Boxing is small time in the states. I would wager your average yank has no ideal who Wilder is.
Mayweather did a lot of damage. Arrogant persona coupled with a dull style is the worst advert for the sport.

Wlad has been a good American TV draw, so the ratings should at least comfortably surpass the Martin and Breazeale fights.
More time for 'strength and conditioning regimes'IT wrote:Another article on BS saying that Joshua is only going to fight 2 times a year from now on, which is interesting.

Exactly my point. People paid to see him lose. No coincidence that most of his later opponents were Hispanic.IT wrote:A lot of damage? The guy did huge PPV numbers.
