He looks solid to me, but still fairly raw, and I'm not convinced of his power at a higher level. Matthews has been stopped about 10 times + was undersized + retired immediately after, and Scarpa didn't seem to find Davies' shots that hurtful. Not really seeing him as someone a level above Taylor, but maybe he will show me something new on fight night.

I agree with the power aspect when he steps up to world class right now I see as a euro level fighter. I think he's the second best 140 guy in the UK behind Catterall. Right now its just an opinion but hopefully beating Taylor some of these poster give him some credit. Resume has to be made with opportunity and I think this is a starting point.

I accept Taylor isn't Mathews, but I was really impressed with how sharp and heavy handed Davies was. And his reach is massive at the weight.

Davies did give Matthews a beating, but Matthews was also very shopworn, had never campaigned at 140, and retired immediately after the fight, suggesting to me that he knew he didn't have much left. I think that's the type of opponent who can really flatter someone's power, though perhaps the Taylor fight will show that he can readily hurt young, promising fighters closer to his size.

I'm not sure that Davies is all that hard of a puncher.

He looks Bronerish to me.

I think of him at this stage as a poor man's Broner (slower handed, sloppier punch technique, pop not proven at the same level), though that could be enough to beat Taylor

Yeah I don't think he a world beater but has more of output than Broner better boxer to me and better foot speed and naturally bigger. No ones claiming he's great but like you said this version will beat Taylor In my opinion.

You're right on all them points. I guess when I compare the Campbell fight and the Davies fight the Davies fight impressed me more. Campbell just come out and put it on him and was quicker and fresher etc. Davies was patient, confident, measured. I liked what I saw

Then again (as it seems like I'm just critiquing Davies), Taylor's biggest win was probably over an inactive Dave Ryan who'd been stopped in his previous fight, and he had problems with his 8-2 opponent after that. Taylor looks the more technically polished boxer to me and I love his combo punching, but his defense has been lax at times, even against less than stellar opposition. I've liked what I've seen of Davies' timing, and I think he'll get through with shots that test JT's chin to an extent it hasn't been.

It's great that these two are fighting, and hopefully we'll see more hot prospect matches like it. If it's a good, competitive bout, I hope both of their stocks rise, but I always fear the the more common approach will be to dismiss the loser's capabilities.

There is a large Asian community in Glasgow but nothing like Iraq
