Given the fact that Sheffield is not far from Manchester, will the terror attacks there tonight have any affect on the Brook-Spence card, with 30,000 expected? At a minimum it's got to affect security measures!!

I'll be rooting for Brook. One he's a Brit, two he's already been written off by many, unfairly in my opinion. I'm a bit guilty of that myself but Brook is in the mix at the top of a very competitive division and is deserving of respect.

Spence will make Brook quit about round 10.

I'll be supporting Brook as I've been a fan since before he won his British belt. Also because he's a Brit. If I had to bet though my money would be on a Spence stoppage. Hope to fukk I'm wrong though.

To be fair, in what way is he particularly wrong about that?

Is brook a protected fighter? Or was he in the "who wants him club", like a lot of wincobank boys, except Nas who brought enough razzmatazz to gather a following and become a draw. Talented fighters, awkward style that can make you look bad as opposed to look good yourself, not much money backing them in. Classic high risk low reward option.

It's been a long time coming getting to the top I'll accept that. But to then throw in, he bailed Hearn out re ggg is just pure bollocks.

Nothing against British boxers and fans, but Brook is overrated in my opinion. He defeated (did he ?) Porter, and has been destroyed by Golovkin. The rest of his opponents are (almost) literally no-names. I can not understand hype around him, but if he is able to beat Spence (not by domestic decision), I will admit my mistake.

Don't have a preference in this one. I respect both fighters, and I just look forward to seeing a good fight. May the best man win.

The decision against Porter wasn't the least bit controversial so yes he did beat Porter.

It was very close, and the ref allowed him to hold/clinch/wrestle. Anyway, I intend to rewatch this rather ugly fight.

This is the classic spence logic on these forums. Back spence by all means, if you like what you see etc

But you can't on one hand go against brook as he's only beaten Porter. As there's only one guy that's beaten a top opponent come Saturday, and it's not spence.

And to follow up your other post re the Porter fight, brook beat him fair, and did a job. It was a good fight but there was only one winner. If Porter was so clumsy up close and smother his own work maybe he'd have a chance, but he got outboxed. There's no doubt about that decision. I suggest you rewatch

Brook gets too much heat for his opposition. I don't think most people realize that bizier and don-don we're both mandatory defenses.

Depends on how you define the subjective term "credible." If we're talking about fighters with a 100+ rating on boxrec, Brook has 11 wins of that caliber, whereas Spence has only 3. If we're talking about fighters with a 400+ rating on boxrec, Brook has 1 win of that caliber, whereas Spence has only 0. Also, while Brook has just one scalp of Porter's caliber, that win wasn't 13 years ago, it was 3 years ago. Going back to 2004 is just misleading. It's like... Wilder has only beaten 1 opponent of borderline top 10 caliber in the past 7,000 years. Well okay, but the fight wasn't 7,000 years ago either.

I think it's fair to say that if Brook has only 1 "credible" win, then Spence most certainly has 0.

The comment I made about bailing Hearn out wasn't meant to be a cut against Brook, only a reality check for those that seem to think that the Brook vs GGG fight was planned all along. Brook took the fight when Hearn asked because his other fight fell through. Brook had 7 weeks to prepare if I remember right. Avid Brook fans said he put on all kinds of muscle for the GGG fight so it will be harder to cut back to 147. You don't put on all kinds of muscle in 7 weeks. He just cut less weight.

Brook has had 3 mandatory fights, so it isn't his fault that they were weak, but he could have had bigger fights if he really wanted them I think. Rios fell through because Brook wanted a rematch clause. Khan fell through because he is scared to lose to Brook. Vargas fell through due to GGG, but could have been made before that came up, not sure why it stalled. Alexander fell through a couple of times. Brook turned down a chance to fight Bradley to "go in a different direction". It was after the Bradley duck that I questioned Brook's heart and confidence, and not sure if he is as tough as he says. His win vs Porter was good, but plagued by worse than Wlad type hugging. I blame Porter for losing that because he didn't know how to fight out of a clinch. Brook should have been penalized though. Way too much holding, but how else do you fight Porter? That question was answered for me when Crawford beat the hell out of Diaz, who's style resembled Porters to me at least.

Now we have Spence, after Brook tried every other avenue to avoid the fight. This was my second thought about his confidence level. Hats off to him for taking it regardless. It will be a good fight. Brook is a huge step up for Spence, and believe Spence will be Brook's second toughest test to date. Full credit to the winner.

Apologies for the long winded response.

I was in Atlanta for the Olympics in 1996 when the terrorist bomb went off. After the initial shock wore off it actually boosted attendance at Centennial Park, where the actual explosion took place. The security check slowed entrance lines to a crawl but there was a sense of defiance among the fans who flocked to the Park from the day after until the Games ended several weeks later.

Hopefully the same sense of defiance will be evident among folks there whose lives would be affected by the Manchester bombing, whether that be for attending local soccer matches or just whatever people would do to continue to lead their lives as normally as possible. No sense in handing the terrorists a 2nd victory by allowing their cowardly attack to disrupt our lives any more than absolutely necessary.
