What kind of thread is this? Boxers lose close decisions often. Boxers get robbed sometimes. If a boxer wants to change that, go for the KO. Even then, you have fiascos like Martinez Cintron and Abraham Dirrell. But boxing in general could care less if you don't follow it anymore.

I will be very frustrated if Sergey is robbed again, but not watching boxing is too extreme of a reaction.

Yes, but you'd think in modern times it could be cleaned up.

If officiating in MLB, NHL, UFC, NBA, NFL etc can be fair, why not in boxing?

I agree with you, but boxing is a complex mess. The NFL has the NFL. Boxing has the wbc, wba, ibf, wbo, you've even got the likes of ibo, wbu, wbf trying to make their way. Wbo are trying to introduce European belt to rival the ebu. Networks own fighters and cross over is difficult, different organisations rank fighters way different positions, don't rank champions of the other belts. What other sports do you get to pick your opponents?

It's a unique sport but it's a mess

When you have Ward on tape attempting a double leg takedown in front of the whole world, and the referee blaming Kovalev for it, one might be forgiven for suggesting it was a blattant robbery.

It was exactly that.

But even then, Kovalev should have shown urgency in the later rds instead of playing it safe; difficult to have sympathy for him, he knew what he was getting into and let himself being robbed.

I was rooting for Kovalev to win the first fight, but thought ward just pulled it out. If you want to say Kovalev just pulled it out, that's fine as well. I thought the first fight was pretty close. I really don't see why some people are insisting it was a robbery. Sour grapes, I guess. Biased national pride. Who knows....

I had it 115-112 Kovalev. I wouldn't say Kovalev was robbed necessarily, but he certainly deserves this rematch and kudos to Ward for doing it without any BS.

There are tons of robberies and bad decisions out there. Funny enough, if it doesn't fit the agenda of some posters, it doesn't get complained about....

Officating isn't fair in all those organizations either.

Agree and I can't complain if you had Kovalev by 3 points. I had Ward by one. I think that line of scoring is the spectrum for this fight. I just don't see it being a robbery.

No sport can ever have perfect officiating. There are honest mistakes made because officials are human.

But I've never seen such frequently bad and obviously corrupt officiating in other sports, like I've seen in boxing.

Lots of corruption/bias in this world, sports , business it's all over the place, boxing has a history of of this type of stuff, that all said, I am expecting a great fight this time, as long as Kovalev psyche holds up..

The OP question should have been: Who do you think won, Ward or Kovalev?
That question would actually have made sense? :witzend:

No, English judges are just dumb, while Vegas ones are corrupt.

Had Ward winning on cards 114-113. And I'm originally from eastern europe. Not a fan of both of fighters.
Some boxing fans who only enjoy action cant cope with this loss unfortunately. Ward is not a pretty fighter to watch for many people but he has an effective style. Ward figured Kovalev out in the second half of the fight and that is the real reason why Kovalev is so mad. He can't accept that he got unlocked. Some people can't cope with that. And by the looks of this whole trainer problem, Kovalev doesn't have a plan B or a plan C for Ward.
Money is on Ward in the 2nd fight.
