Re: Mayweather v McGregor

I find it most repellant that this ridiculous spectacle will take him to 50-0 and some spurious notion that this improved stat proves something.
The 50th win won't prove anything. It'll make his record look prettier on paper by 1 more fight. He's already proven a lot. This one is about money.deadpan wrote:I find it most repellant that this ridiculous spectacle will take him to 50-0 and some spurious notion that this improved stat proves something.
I'm mixed, mate.brian13 wrote:Floyd should win but I am supporting Conor because he is my fellow country man.

He has power in MMA with those little mitts on, is that power going to carry with a boxing glove on?moogie101 wrote:I'm a huge MMA fan, Conor has spent most of his career cutting insane amounts of weight to have a HUGE height & weight advantage over his opponents.
Then he fought Nate Diaz, a similar sized fighter who in the first fight was hurting Conor standing up & forced McGregor to turn into a grappler which backfired & he got tapped. Then in the close rematch he again had moments where he was being outboxed & many feel the close decision could have gone either way.
Nate Diaz is a decent boxer for MMA, but that doesn't make him a decent boxer for boxing & if he can do that to Conor I don't even want to think what Floyd will do to him. McGregeor can hope either he catches some insane punch because he does have power but we are talking about getting lucky on one of the best defensive boxers or beyond that he lasts the 12 rounds & can claim it as a moral victory for himself & MMA, but realistically neither of these are happening.
Each boxer? There's more than 1?CaptainSpacerod wrote:Says on the BBC website that each boxer could make $100m.
That's truly a sad indictment on the gullibility of sports fans.
But its sanctioned so it is a fight warrior,Ali's wasnt on his record as an actual contestMightyWarrior wrote:Doesn't bother me, just a minor sideshow for the general public, plus I also consider Mayweather retired really, as this doesn't count as a fight ...Muhammad Ali did the same thing in the 70s taking on some Japanese superstar wrestler.
Think its fair to say that the press conferences will be better than the actual fight unless connor forgets its a boxing ring and gives floyd a spinning wheel kickMightyWarrior wrote:Oh right well I suppose that doesn't surprise me, just another miss match that will soon be forgotten. I guess a similar scenario was Floyd Patterson defending his world title against a boxer making his pro debut. Even though he won the Olympics, it was a pretty ridiculous mis match, but the general public likely thought it a super fight.
I don't get the 'makes a mockery' lines. Floyd is retired and it's a bit of an exhibition fight. It's far, far worse for mma.thechump wrote:This just makes a mockery of the sport i love, how can the commission sanction this fight is beyond me,a guy who has never laced a pair of boxing gloves up professionally stepping into the ring with a top 10 greatest of all time. I will not be buying this farce and i expect virtually every boxing fan will do the same.
Because floyd doesnt stay retired he trains his ass off everyday still,he may be retired on paper but he still has the skills to beat any active boxer in and around 140lb-154lb,its bad for boxing. Its not like he is challenging ricky hatton is it? Now ricky is a retired boxer so id get your point if this was the case but were talking about floyd mayweather, the guy is a gym rat and loves trainingdirk2686 wrote:I don't get the 'makes a mockery' lines. I have personally accepted Floyd isn't the elite fighter he was and has essentially retired. He's forty years old and no amount of gym work is going to change that. Could he beat top level opponents today? Almost certainly. But he's simply not what he was.thechump wrote:Because floyd doesnt stay retired he trains his ass off everyday still,he may be retired on paper but he still has the skills to beat any active boxer in and around 140lb-154lb,its bad for boxing.
