The proposed WBO super middleweight championship bout between defending champ Joe Calzaghe (37-0, 30 KOs) and Kabary Salem (23-3, 12 KOs) has hit a snafu. According to Salem's manager, Nedal Abuhumoud, the WBO is hesitant to sanction the bout because Salem lost his last bout to Mario Veit (via split decision). The Salem-Calzaghe bout was scheduled to take place on October 22 at the Royal Highland Showground, Edinburgh, Scotland. Negotiations are under way to schedule the bout as a non-title bout. Salem is still ranked #6 by the WBO.
