I disagree with your opinion of Stephen A Smith. What he said was damaging but it wasn't his fault in HIS eyes he saw a robbery and said its not good for the sport on that platform and I agree. I had the same thought at the time he had. I'm as hardcore as they get. To the ppv market point there's ony a handful of guys that can sell ppv. PPV's aren't sold by fights but by individual brands that attract attention and unfortunely its not many.
Smith doesn't no sh!t about boxing. He proved it that night repetitively. He just has a big mouth on a big stage. Tim Bradley was far more measured and accurate with his analysis. If the broadcast had been properly balanced, or if Bradley was just as big a loudmouth as Smith, it might have been ok.
Instead we had Smith and Atlas whipping up a frenzy over a close fight that could have gone either way. I had it 115-112 for Pac realtime but I have no major issue with someone seeing it 115-113 Horn. Basically I had the same view as Bradley.
Bradley was like that because he was Horn previously getting a decision they he didn't deserve so he didn't want to be to judgemental. Smith saw a robbery which isn't out the realm of possibility.
They both expressed their opinions. Smith is just an ignorant loudmouth with a big stage.
The Pac v Bradley I fight was a very similar situation, with the exception that it was close because Pac was lazy and unfocused rather than old.
For a decade Pac has gotten the benefit of the doubt because of his brand and his style. Judges are less affected by that than fans and the media.
I had Pac v Bradley I 115-113 Bradley and I still stand by it. However, I would not have howled and whined if Pac had gotten the decision that night, like I expected that he would. I think Pac should have been awarded the decision v Horn but 115-113 Horn is not an unreasonable card given how close I saw it.
Pac simply did not make it clear enough under the circumstances.
there are not many terrible decisions
in boxing these days on world class
level, but there are close fights which
could go either way and thus spark a
lot of controversy. that would not be
solved with a dozen judges on each
side and five more on the cameras.
boxing judging is subjective and will
always be. live with it.

You have the right to that opinion just like Smith and myself believe that both Horn and Bradley fights were not close enough. Just because someone has a different scorecard like Smith and I did compared to yours doesn't mean that someone's an idiot. I rather for Smith to be honest than for Bradley to play both sides.

I did not say that Smith and / or you are idiots. I said that Smith is an ignorant loudmouth when it comes to boxing. I have no problem with his opinion if he wasn't such a boorish, yelping hyena about it.
Your accusation of Bradley being disingenuous with his opinion is total conjecture. He had the fight close for Pac but he acknowledges that there were a number of close rounds that could have gone either way.
Smith is a grandstander who loves to talk over people.
Smith has no business being a part of a Boxing telecast.
He mentioned Ali Funeka and Randall Bailey and shit and said "Who are these dudes?"
I realize MOST people wouldn't know those dudes, but a guy who's reporting on a Boxing match should. They weren't nobodies to me, and I'm sure there were a lot of fans who thought he was a jackass for saying that. Al Bernstein even called him on it, and he almost never does stuff like that.

Bernstein I like but when the scorecard of Relikh-Rances came out. All he could say was "wow" great insight. We need passionate people talking about the sport instead of guys who just go with the status quo. I'll concede the Funeka or Bailey comment, but to be fair most fans probably watching that telecast didn't know those two. Of course we did but I pretty sure we were the minority.

He really doesn't, that being said I'd take ten smith's over one Teddy. At least Smith's nonsense isn't during the actual fights.
