He had to step up in the UK before going to EU level. I thought it was about the right time. It was sheer carelessness and overconfidence that led to his undoing. He could have won that fight on the outside, as everyone expected him to.

Looking at that, almost everyone tipped Taylor! Some, myself included, were very surprised OD took it. Crusader had it down to a tee from the second it was signed!

Meldrick Taylor when Richard Steele stopped the fight with JCC (although chances are he would never have been the same again anyway after the punishment he took that night).

Getting knocked out in front of 80,000 people against an all time great British fighter for a huge purse is much better than getting knocked out in front of 300 people in a small town show in Warwickshire (nothing against Warwickshire).

You could do a lot worse than Groves career. In fact 99% of boxers do do a lot worse.

Billy Nelson got it absolutely spot on.

Before it was signed, and when it was first signed, Taylor was a sizable favourite it seemed--most people saw levels between him and Davies. By fight night it had somehow turned into a 50/50...

I'm not so sure if it was a bad decision.
It's going to be GGG's biggest payday, and even if he loses, he dosent lose all his belts so he still has a viable career afterwards.
And if he wins?
Rematch with an even bigger payday?
PPV star?

Huge world wide exposure no matter what the outcome. And nice chunk of cash towards his retirement.
