Herbie Hide Vs Floyd Paterson anyone?

How do we think this would pan-out?

Both hit hard (slight edge to Hide)
Both have suspect chins
Both were quick (slight edge to Paterson)
Hide was stronger
Paterson had better dedication

How do we see this one going, or is it a case of whoever lands big first? :box:

Does anyone here consider Barry McGuigan a great? if so, could Frampton have beaten him at feather prime for prime? I'm thinking that Frampton is in his prime right now possibly :maybe:

I'd take Paterson over Hide every time.

I can't believe I just read that Patterson would only have a slight speed advantage against Herbie. More like a massive advantage.

I'll bet Randy Turpin could pull off a major upset against Sugar Ray Robinson :D

Serious answer though.

I suppose they'll probably both go down as greats, so I don't know if anybody would take this answer or not, but I think Wladimir would give Ali absolute hell, and would possibly beat him.

Ali would school Wlad something fierce. Though Wlad will go down as great.

Yeah...the more I think about it, you're probably right. Wlad has all the physical tools to give Ali hell, but he wouldn't have the mentality, he'd be doing his patient boxing thing from the outside, and it would likely allow Ali the chance to catch him with the occasional shot, and move around the ring for long stretches.

Wlad would need to be using his strength to trouble Ali against the ropes sometimes, and I'm not sure he'd do it often enough.

By the way, good call on Witherspoon vs Ali. Witherspoon is EXACTLY the kinda style that always gave Ali hell. Almost like Ken Norton all over again, except Tim Witherspoon hit harder than Norton. Tim would need to be at his best of course, but if he were going to be fighting a fight as big as Ali there's every reason to believe he would've been.

Doubt it, you have to point a gun to his head for him to enter the ring against "average".

No, a slight advantage as I said. Do you not remember how fast Hide was? Re-watch the first two rounds of a prime Riddick Bowe vs Herbie Hide and see how fast Hide actually was.... I admit Paterson may have an advantage but if he does, the edge is very slight.

Herbie Hide is a myth. He doesn't beat any all time great for having one good round against Vitali before being shot by a sniper and Bowe saying nice things about him.

Did he even have one good round against Vitali? I don't remember him doing anything of note in the first.

I think Paul Smith beats Ray Robinson, controls him with the left jab for 3 or 4 rounds, then takes him out with a long range uppercut. This would obviously only happen if Ray had insulted Paul's nan. Probably on twitter.
