Very talented, fast puncher who seemed to have a dodgy chin
Re: What will be Amir King Khan's enduring legacy?
Khan has achieved things in boxing, but with his talent I feel like it could have been more. The management and out of the ring practice in his life seem just chaos at times.
The worst thing is from the fresh faced 17 year old that the whole country lived in the Olympic spirit turned into one of the most arrogant unlikable characters this country has

Basically his chin let him down - he had speed, decent power, decent boxing skills.... but he loved to trade... and with that chin it was a bad tacticOssyrules wrote:Khan has achieved things in boxing, but with his talent I feel like it could have been more. Re: What will be Amir King Khan's enduring legacy?
Even with that chin, he could have been so, so much better. Blinding handspeed, fluid combinations upstairs and down, good reflexes, good instincts, good power. Just no chin (not his fault) and no boxing IQ nor willingness to learn the pro game (totally his fault). And why he never fought better opposition the past few years is beyond me - gobshite thickos in his ear the whole time, I guess
Re: What will be Amir King Khan's enduring legacy?
I think he fulfilled his potential. Great career with plenty of exciting fights, not everyone is P4P level, he did great.

Re: What will be Amir King Khan's enduring legacy?
I don't think he fulfilled his potential despite winning belts at 140, he last held one 6 years ago and as someone already said when the welter scene was red hot he contrived to avoid the big names which may have got him the Mayweather fight. Right up until the Peterson/Garcia losses he was a major star but although he's got decent names on his resume I think it flatters to deceive in the main. He's achieved a lot more than most young boxers can dream of starting out but when you consider the talent and the opportunities he's had it could have been so much more.

The ex husband of Joshua's side piece.
Re: What will be Amir King Khan's enduring legacy?
Classic modern day tale of 17 year boy from humble beginnings unable to handle fame and fortune. He lacks both awareness and intelligance but shouldnt be judged too harshly. His friends/family and associates have certainly aided his downfall.
Re: What will be Amir King Khan's enduring legacy?
I don't see how Khan has ever been unlikable?
Re: What will be Amir King Khan's enduring legacy?
Same here, people on this thread also seem to be talking as if his career is over.Coco wrote:I don't see how Khan has ever been unlikable?

I've always liked Khan, but I can see why others don't. like him or not, his resume is underrated at this point. He's won a lot of big fights. If there is just a British Boxing HOF, he's obviously high up in it.

A brave but vulnerable boxer but in later years also a messer

I think he'll always be looked on as a guy who didn't live up to his full potential, even though he really did. A British Zab Judah if you will. People will go on about how he could have been so much better had he done this or that, just like Judah. Guys with fast hands seem to get that a lot. The get overrated because speed is such an important piece of boxing.
As for Khan, he wanted to be a celebrity so badly it cost him some big fights, fights he most likely would have lost anyway. His career turned out the absolute best it could have.

Re: What will be Amir King Khan's enduring legacy?
Good skills and in the ring a brave fighter. I think the decision to drop out of the Devon Alexander fight when the yank held a world title will haunt him - that could well have been his claim to a Pacman or Mayweather windfall, but instead he tried to blag his way in. Terrible move.
I seem to be alone in this thread in thinking that he's overachieved. With his chin and low IQ he couldn't possibly have done any more, and he should be very thankful Frank exhumed Barrera and matched him ingeniously with small, weak-fisted Kotelnik. Had he been active these last few years the big names would all have comatised him and his market value right now would be non-existent. Instead he at least has the option of a lucrative Kell Brook smash & grab to finance that impending divorce.

Re: What will be Amir King Khan's enduring legacy?
I never saw Khan wanting to be a celebrity. Other than boxing on TV the only other publicity he has got is a rough breakup and being caught with his pants down. He wasn't looking for that publicity.
And he has never publicised the stuff he has done for charity

I take your point there but suspected before the fight, and hindsight confirmed, that a guy with slow feet and without a big punch, plus not a guy who counterpunches but shells up when you throw at him, is a very convenient style match for Khan.Yes We Can wrote:Kotelnik was a very underrated guy, robbed a few times.Tuan_Jim wrote:Good skills and in the ring a brave fighter. Edit, regarding Kotelnik i am pretty sure there were some usual suspects on here insisting he would knock Khan out....probably Riddick and Gomez for starters
Re: What will be Amir King Khan's enduring legacy?
Another one that thinks he actually overachieved or achieved as much as he could pretty much by cherrypicking smaller shot fighters. And avoiding the prime guys. Too flawed to have longetivity hence why his careers been a series of cherrypicks...looking for the mayweather/canelo big money fights. I think he knew himself after garcia the game was up. Cashed himself out against canelo. I think thats part of the problem hes facing atm...knows deep down hes not good enough for the top level regardless of how hard he works...he basically likes the idea of being a top boxer but after garcia hes not so keen anymore can hardly blame him really it was a pretty brutal beatdown when you add in the maidana fight and the sparring on top etc.. Canelo was all about money. Hes currently running away from boxing...i m busy doing my charity work etc trying to hide till hes too old imo.
I think the talk of him being the best etc is him refusing to accept it hes sort of deceiving himself but deep down he knows...the games up. And hes struggling to come to terms with it. Now experiencing what happens on the way down...you no longer get the big hype you once had...people leave etc. Hes now chasing it by other means...trying to trick himself into believing hes still the big star he once was treated like. Hence the reason hes out with a new burd today. Left my wife yesterday...look i ve got a new girlfriend already type of thing. I m still important. Sleeping with tramps thinking it validates him.
Sometimes the quicker you get humbled the better. Especially when he can still get some decent wins. I think at this stage he,d be better getting back with a trainer in britain. And forget about the party lifestyle. Get down to knuckling down and see what can come of it.

Come on, you lot.
Try and tell me his fights are not exciting?
It's like a knife edge every fight. Great boxing skills and fast hands with a glass chin
You never know what is going to happen.
That's entertainment. Every round of the Canelo fight just waiting for him to kiss the canvas while out boxing Canelo and stealing rounds off him.
Classic stuff![[icon_notworthy.gif]](./images/smilies/icon_notworthy.gif)

There is one option missing, fighting on too long to pay off his ex missus in a massive divorce settlement.
