To be fair, that's the same place I got it from :TU:

Always remembered it since then, as it caught me by surprise - the whole 'pride of Wales' thing, and obviously with the name we all know about his Italian heritage but this one seems to get swept under the rug.

Or at least not reported on...

It would be far quicker for you to ask someone employed by BoxRec to write an SQL query on their fight list database, where they could stipulate filters that take into account things like number of world title fights, longevity of title reign, amount of four/five star bouts, win/loss record and also the highest rated points for world title bouts.

From the resulting list of fighters (grouped per locale), the forum should then be in a position to very easily determine/vote the “GOAT’s by state, region, country.”

Otherwise, the info. being requested in this thread is far too taxing and time-consuming to acquire.
If I'm not mistaken, BoxRec is making upgrades to the site. It'd be great if they added a feature that allowed you to query things like this; Boxers by Place of Birth.

But f*ck it. I'm not waiting around.
Make it a little project here on the BoxRec Forum among all the posters.

Contribute your thoughts, your picks, your research.
Revisit the thread with updates.

Oh, now I see it's merely about where they're born. In that case, I'd have Wlad #1 for Kazakhstan, though I consider him a Ukrainian boxer.

and Vitali was born in Kyrgyzstan, do we have count him as a Kyrgyz?

i think that place of birth is not a good factor, i dont think that Klitschko's consider themselves as Kazakh or Kyrgyz

it was but nowadays it's Kazahstan.

both Tszyu, Kovalev, Povetkin, Lebedev, Klitschkos, Golovkin, Arbachakov etc are born in Soviet Union - so we have to not include them in that list?

Exactly. Lets say a japenese couple is on a business trip in england and the pregnant women gives birth, what is the child than, an english boy. No, he is a japanese boy who was born in england.

Klitschko are 2 man from a country that doesnt exist anymore. Since they feel like ukraines they ukraines to me.

Place of birth is the most "determinable," if you will. There's no guess-work, no debate (for the most part). But believe me, I'm aware that some people move and are raised elsewhere from a young age... that's why I added that note (see the OP).

Some people were born in the Ukraine and moved somewhere else... other people were born somewhere else and moved to the Ukraine. It's just a matter of happenstance.

If people want, I can add the list of Boxers who are identified more so with the place they were raised, rather than the place they were born...

Examples:
Miguel Cotto = Puerto Rico, but born in Rhode Island-U.S.
Antonio Margarito = Tijuana/Baja-Mexico, but born in California-U.S.
Vitali Klitschko = Ukraine, but born in Kyrgyzstan
Wladimir Klitschko = Ukriane, but born in Kazakhstan

I believe so.
Look, it can get messy, I know. So going by the present-day affiliations (so to speak) it keeps things simpler.

I actually would like to compile the "Former Soviet Union" list too, to see how that looks put all together.

Place of birth is not debatable, it's black-n-white (for the most part). That's the reason to use that as the standard.

Born in England means born in England.
BUT it's important to note exceptions like I've listed in the OPs.

Other more complicated exceptions may include "Military brats." Boxers born on a U.S.-base in Japan, for example. It's important to note that too.

that is what happened to Klitschko's - they were born on a USSR military bases. btw what about the likes of Marco Huck (Muamer Hukić) - fights as a German, born in Serbia (then Yugoslavia), and he is an ethnic Bosniak? :maybe:

if we put him in there as an Serbian (because he is probably the most accomplished fighter born in nowadays Serbia territority) he will be considered the best fighter of a country that he probably hates a lot, hates most than any other - because he is a Bosniak

if you meant the third brother case i can not find nothing else now - i remember back then (like 5 years ago) i found a source that was in Russian too that said that they are hidding a ''third brother'' because he is quite a shame for they family, commited something bad, but it all may be just a bullshit too :TU: and it's nice that you put Klitschko's as Ukrainians because it would be strange to put guys with an rich Ukrainian/Cossack heritage as Kazakh or Kyrgyz :D

I was less impressed by Mohammed Ali Boulevard, and had immediate requests by my passengers to get off that street! (They were from a very small town) We were driving along and a guy was obviously breaking into a parked car....he looked up but didn't stop what he was doing.

By chance, do you know anyone at BoxRec, and could they do that for us?

That'd be another cool/interesting perspective.
