Anyone else sick of explaining that Floyd won't actually be 'breaking the world record' if he reaches 50-0?

He certainly wont be getting to 87-0

The record he can eventually break would be for the most wins on a career 100 percent winning record, but that obviously depends on him never fighting again, which could take a while to determine. Chances are also good that the Thai guy will get past 50-0 before losing.

Hasn't come up in conversation with anybody I've talked to.

I'd like to see Floyd win for the sake of boxing because if a boxing debutant somehow beat the best defensive boxer of his generation it would be pretty tough to explain to my kids why I favour the noble art over MMA. I'm really not a big fan of the way Mayweather negotiated his career and I think he definitely cherry-picked at times and always made sure the odds were on his side but he is supremely talented and as defensively gifted a boxer I've ever seen. I think his power is also underrated, brittle hands maybe or a long career banging the pads whatever, he is no slouch as a puncher and his chin is pretty solid. Father Time is his only enemy in my opinion . .

I believe Mayweather will win clearly but no matter what happens this contest doesn't boost nor hinder boxing or MMA.
Also, Mayweather, assuming he wins, doesn't go 50-0, he goes 50-0* as his record will never be mentioned without highlighting that his final contest wasn't a 'proper' one.

Floyd's a despicable pudendum for sure and I agree with those who say how tiresome it is to hear him banging on about being TBE but every man's entitled to big himself up. What infuriates me is why don't the spineless reporters and TV interviewers pull him up on this a la Larry Merchant rather than nodding their stupid arselicking heads. They do the sport they profess to love a major disservice by letting him peddle his myths because the casual fan and the wider sporting public see the unbeaten record reach 40-0 and beyond and believe he must therefore be TBE and then spend their money on his cherrypicked PPVs and this joke of a fight is the natural extension of that and exactly what boxing deserves for letting this odious little tw4t hoodwink the public for all these years

All that said the OP has it spot on, Floyd is fighting for boxing's honour and I will wake up Sunday morning hoping like fvck that he's won.

I want Conor to win because I support my own but I cannot look past a points win for Floyd. Conor will go out on his shield if he does loses.

It will be 'meh' for most of the boxing fraternity if Floyd wins yes but the history books that show boxers resume's will show a 'w' over McGregor just the same as a 'w' for any other Mayweather opponent, only the aficionado's of boxing will say 'yeah but' . . . . .

I wanted DLH to beat Mayweather, so I was biased to his work, but I had him losing narrowly. He was the aggressor and he worked harder, and if fights were scored on effort, he'd have taken it, but too many of his shots found elbows and shoulders. He just kept falling-in and smothering his work, trying to rough Floyd up on the inside as the bigger man.

Mayweather was open to a right uppercut straight after Mosley landed one of his big rights, but it's all well and good saying that now. When Mosley watches that back, I wonder if he regrets getting a bit carried away and loading up. We've seen how to beat Mayweather over the years, but he's evolved so that his number keeps changing once you've got his old one. You can sometimes still catch him with a right if you can slip his counter-right after your jab. Or if you can make him commit to his straight right, maybe even pull your jab now that his reflexes are slower.

One of the things I've noticed about the older Mayweather is his increased economy of movement. He seems happy to let shots brush him that he'd have previously avoided entirely, all to save energy.

That is exactly right! Yes boxing will not disappear at once if Floyd lost but each time MMA vs boxing debate happens this will inevitably come up. They will say that boxing is inferior, it has inferior skill requirement. Our boy moved in the beat your "best guy ever" in his debut. Whatever we replay will sound like a lame excuse. And this forever. I pray Floyd doesn't twist his uncle or something during the fight and looses on medical, otherwise we are safe.

As a boxing fan im sick of Connor McGregor and his big mouth,thought he was gonna kiss floyd at one point in the face off last night. So when did this "cherry picking" start? Was it against prime castillo? Or prime diego coralles? Was it gatti? Or was it emmanuel augustus? Was it de la hoya? No he had him move up to 154 and wear the 10 oz gloves. was it prime Alvarez at canelos weight class? It couldnt of been prime hatton or prime ortiz could it? Now go and find me a fighter with a record with all these nanes on it in their prime fighting them.ine after the other if you cant then keep it zipped,no one in the history of this sport has anyone had a record with the quality of fighters on so for me he is the best of the last 30 years and gotta be at least top 10 p4p of all time

I can't really fault him for that.

Actually when you think about the revenue he's bought into Ireland and the taxes he's paid I imagine he has paid back that benefit bill many times over
