I didn't think McGregor would be able to land as much as he did though ,if that had been Crawford in there with Floyd tonight Floyd would of lost he was rusty

Floyd would've lost tonight against several boxers. That's why he wasn't fighting a boxer, and that's why he was/is retired.

Floyd looked rusty but he also matches forward in a complete opposite style to what he's used to.

You might be right about your claim but...

Floyd didn't really seem to be trying. He never got out of first gear.

In fact, his opponent was so offensively ineffective and defensively irresponsible, this enabled Floyd to contemptuously abandon his preferred fighting style.

When I see a defensive-minded boxer stalk their prey, whilst smiling, talking and winking to those sitting ringside... while having a laugh and a joke with their cornermen... it makes me believe they're not really trying too hard.

We never saw Floyd exert at least 30% of his optimal effort tonight.

I guess I just not really thought that his age would be that big of an issue he looked the normal Floyd Vs berto

Junior never took the fight serious and still won easely. Actually, even more easy as I expected.

Canelo would have destroyed him.

Let's be honest, Mayweather could have gotten him out of there any time from the fourth onwards.

If McGregor was a boxer, you wait until the end of the round.
But you can't let the MMA guy get battered around. It wouldn't look right.

The experts predicted McGregor would lose every minute of every round.

To be fair I don't think the experts expected extend Floyd to march forward like he did.

The stoppage was good obviously but I get where mcgregor is coming from. I think the UFC refs let it go a bit further than boxing refs so it's what he's used to.

How about when one guy is staggering around tge ring, sagging on the ropes, and not punching back? He was an exhausted punching bag...

Yup FM made his point...no point in CM getting a really bad beating like Gaiti did

Ha MMA refs stop fights the instant someone might get hurt...boxing refs will let them go on.

One of the first things a boxer is taught, which is also the very last thing they hear immediately prior to a fight starting, is to "protect yourself at all times".

It was abundantly clear that Conor wasn't doing that, so why are some people so adamant about the ref stopping the bout prematurely?

Have they forgotten about such a basic principle? Are they new to the sport?

Why? He went to the body viciously in the 4th, his arms were already heavy and he took the air out him. I hardly think brittle fingers Floyd ever expected to blast him out with a single shot, was always going to be a methodical beating.

Because he was finished. Floyd never once really turned up the heat till the seventh. If he wanted to he could have done and there would have been nothing Conor could do.

As someone who didn't have an amateur or professional boxing bout, Conor McGregor didn't belong in a boxing ring with a solid professional boxer, let alone Floyd Mayweather, Jr. I remained stunned that the Nevada State Athletic Commission allowed a Mayweather-McGregor boxing bout to take place within their jurisdiction.

If a fighter is taking a real beating and doesn't have a realistic chance of winning a bout, a referee probably should stop it.

I can't find the citation now but I read the Athletic Commission took into consideration Mayweather's age, inactivity, and the fact he hadn't had a clear knockout in a while into consideration. If it was Golovkin or Alvarez they would not have sanctioned the fight,

I thought it was a decent stoppage. Would have let the fight go on a bit longer. I guess the ref felt that an MMA fighter needs extra protection. He didn't want a Tim Hague 2.0, I think.
Frankly, I believe that the somewhat premature stoppage was a godsend for McGregor. He would have been floored within the next 30 seconds and not only suffered vastly more head trauma but also a much more decisive, highlight-reel worthy ending.
The stoppage was the best possible outcome for him at that stage. Not only did it conserve his health but also gave him a heroic exit. There was hardly any realistic better outcome.
There is no real debate whether a later stoppage would have changed the outcome. It would not have gone to the scorecards regardless.

The only valid question is:
Was McGregor stopped due to punches or fatigue?
Obviously getting hit contributes to fatigue, but for the most part his performance went south when fatigue set it. His fatigue became a factor from round 5-ish onwards and was caused by his inexperience in boxing. He can't know how to best pace himself for a 12 round boxing match, how could he?
