Most debutants fight 4 rounds... through 4 he was probably winning.
Anyone can win rounds if your opponent doesn't throw punches.
Mayweather only throws about 6 punches a round anyway....
And it's hard to penalise Mac for landing cleannpunches on the most slippery champ ever.
Macgregor deserves plenty of credit for his performance, I think he did way over most serious boxing fans' expectations. Certainly mine.
I thought he'd be poor - he was utterly pathetic.
I can't believe he'd ever outpoint him but perhaps he'd have a better engine and a bit of pop that might put Floyd off. Instead he was knackered after four rounds and Mayweather was literally laughing at his punches.
If he came with the usual resume - say he was 24-0 and in the up, we'd be saying two things; that was the worst performance by Mayweather ever against a guy who looked laughably bad.

I think that's really harsh. But I agree he as absolutely knackered after 4 rounds....

His counter punching the first three rounds was surprisingly good. Apart from that he didnt really have anything else going for him in a boxing ring. Poor stamina. No real defence. Footwork not great. Power not good. Speed very average. Quite surprised he never went for a specific boxing trainer for it. Coach looked a bit out of his depth. Not a critism of the coach really as it is two different ball games at the end of the day.

I'm rating him on his performance compared to other people Mayweather has fought.

What suprised me is mcgregors power,iv seen him in ufc and most do fall when he touches them but mayweather took it like a walk in the park. Mayweather gave up probably 20lbs on fight night and it still didnt have any effect on him

I saw a report from a ringside doctor whom said that fatigue wouldn't cause him to wobble and be so off-balance.
He said it was down to brain trauma aka Ataxia :
"The organ the ringside physician is concerned about when a fighter displays ataxia is the brain, and the specific part is a small area near the back of the skull called the cerebellum. The cerebellum functions to coordinate and regulate movements, and when it's injured, will result in lack of precision and accurate timing of body movements. It is typically tested by the finger to nose test, during which any abnormalities will be noticeably amplified by an outstretched finger. The cerebellum frequently exhibits malfunction during concussion and traumatic brain injury due to its location at the back of the skull, predisposing it to something called a contrecoup injury. This occurs when a force is applied to the front of the skull, such as a Mayweather punch, causing the brain to accelerate backwards and hit the back of the skull. Global brain rotational forces and acceleration/deceleration will also contribute to cerebellar injury."

He didn't hurt him because Mayweather wasn't leaping in off his feet. When he knocked out Aldo, it was an arm punch, but Aldo practically had his eyes closed, feet off the ground, arms all over. He's got decent speed and reflexes to counter, but he's not gonna do much damage against people who can actually box. He slapped away at Mayweather, but he needed the assistance of a man jumping at him. The bloke is just useless as a boxer, as I've seen said elsewhere, Bradley Skeete would batter him, forget about the top class of the division.

I think I was the only one who liked the way Mayweather was applying pressure. Seen him do the same thing to Corley and Judah and especially Sharma Mitchell which was one of his most aggressive performances but it was still a joy to watch his slipping and parrying moving forward. He was constantly applying pressure from the 5th round on. I just like watching the way he moves in the ring I guess.

Literally not one word of that sentence is in any way relevant.

He did the same to Hatton

He kind of stood with Hatton and beat him at his own game. He wasn't walking Hatton down because Hatton never took a backward step. He was actively walking the other lads down on the front foot

You are not wrong but Floyd was willing to stand with him rather than back off and actually manhandled Hatton in the clinches and didn't allow Ricky to work inside, wearing our man out in the process and then clinically knocking him out when he was spent.

Perhaps we are all coming, slowly, to the conclusion, that Floyd Mayweather is a fantastic fighter. Not based on MacGregor, as that was a glorified exhibition, but his whole body of work.
Prime RJJ was the best I saw live, but FMJ is a comfortable second - as time moves on , his utter dismantling of Canelo, looks like an epic performance.

And also what he did to JMM after he knocked Pac cold.
I know he is not everyone's cup of tea and never punched like RJJ but prime for prime I would fancy him v GGG

Completely agree mate but you will always get the people saying he beat An inexperienced Canelo, disregarding the fact he was 42-0 himself at the time

And where do we think canelo gained his experience?mostly from being schooled by Floyd. He said himself that he learned a lot from that and you can see he's worked on his defensiveness and his counter punching. He uses a lot more of the moves Floyd does on the ropes to avoid shots these days whereas before he wasn't doing it. I think he was shocked at Floyd's defence and of course he was taking clean counters from Floyd every time he made a mistake coming forward.
If that canelo Floyd fight doesn't happen, canelo doesn't progress and become the fighter he is today. And I for one think he beats ggg.

Again mate I agree with nearly everything you've said there, apart from the beating GGG. I think Canelo for all his qualitys is a bit stationary and will get stopped late on after being ahead on the cards. I think GGG showed against Jacobs he struggled a bit with movers and I don't think Canelo is a mover

Imagine what Canelo would do to CWank? He'd fvcking massacre him. Shame Mac would no way have the balls for that, that one I would pay to watch.

I don't think that his sac content would have anything to do with that choice. If the money and contractual arrangements are right, I believe that he will take that ass whooping.

The money would be great, his enthusiasm for the task much less so.
I'll gladly tip my hat to you if I'm wrong on that, I hope I am. It would be brutal.

Good point. Dude is set for life many times over. Money might NOT make a difference for him going forward.

A beating from Mayweather was never likely to be career-changing or ending and he didn't lose mystique to his fans in losing for the $$$$$$. A beating from Canelo would be substantially detrimental to his future career and earnings IMO, not to mention substantially alter any rep he had as a tough guy. Actually I said he lacked the balls, thinking about it boxing Canelo would be all balls and no brains unless the money was even bigger than for Floyd, which i doubt it would be.

Doubt McGregor gives a sh*t really
Lost to one of, if not the most skilful boxer of this generation, in his pro boxing debut
Two completely different sports so he will still make big fights in the cage, rep still intact
Most likely he laughed all the way to the bank

Canelo would cause serious harm to McGregor.
That's a fight where you would genuinely worry for McGregors health. He would be starched in the same manner of Kirkland, Baldomir and khan. Maybe even more brutally.
