I want to box....
Re: I want to box....
In my personal experience there's a big difference to getting lamped twice in the coupon then dealing with it
Re: I want to box....
Ya, one of my most jarring experiences was being hit the first time. For some reason, despite seeing plenty of knockouts on TV before I joined the gym, I thought it would just be like a big pillow hitting meTerminator666 wrote:When I was young, I thought it looked easy but soon realised it's not much fun being hit by someone who is different class or even just by someone who is used to sparring a lot

I have 1 amateur fight to my credit. I was 18 at the time. My opponent was 29. It was his 20th bout. I'm 0-1

And if you had not had that fight you probably would of always wished you hadgilgamesh wrote:I have 1 amateur fight to my credit. I was 18 at the time. My opponent was 29. It was his 20th bout. I'm 0-1

You'll never know if you don't try
Re: I want to box....
Surprised they let that happen! That's a huge gulf in experience...gilgamesh wrote:I have 1 amateur fight to my credit. I was 18 at the time. My opponent was 29. It was his 20th bout. I'm 0-1
Re: I want to box....
Yeah. In fact I very much regret I didn't get to continue on with it. The only reason I didn't is because the gym I trained at and fought out of shut down pretty much a week or two after my fight so I never got the chance to box again. I trained at a gym a few years later in Missouri, and did a whole lot of sparring, and definitely improved significantly as a fighter. I very much regret that I never got the chance to apply the skills I picked up in a 2nd bout. I think I'd have won that 2nd one.littlepug wrote:And if you had not had that fight you probably would of always wished you hadgilgamesh wrote:I have 1 amateur fight to my credit. Yeah. They just had nobody else for either of us to fight, and we both badly wanted to fight SOMEBODY so they matched us against each other. There's a whole lot of strange things about that. We weren't even in the same weight class.crusader wrote:Surprised they let that happen! That's a huge gulf in experience...gilgamesh wrote:I have 1 amateur fight to my credit. I was 18 at the time. I weighed 176 for the fight. He weighed 162. I guess they figured with his edge in experience it cancelled out my size advantage...and yeah it definitely did

You had a boxing journey however long it lasted, even the best have regrets, the fact you entered a boxing ring at all is something you should be really proud ofgilgamesh wrote:Yeah. I'll start off the boxrec fight club when ilikebeer comes here for the snooker. I'll gladly meet up and jab him if he orders fosters and nips back to his hotel for a snack in my city.

I did too, and I did the same thing. Watching all the fights prior to mine, walking around. Hitting the heavy bag...etc.thechump wrote:You have the same record as me gilgameshgilgamesh wrote:I have 1 amateur fight to my credit. I was 18 at the time. My opponent was 29. It was his 20th bout. I'm 0-1didnt have my first fight till i was 25 and if i could give some advice to anyone having their first amateur fight it would be this "when you get the hall or social club where ever the show is,have a look at the ring then get in the changing rooms and chill out in there till your ready to go" i was in and out of the main area were the ring was watching fights listening to people who were half shot saying "just knock him out,you only have to hit him once and its game over" so when it was time to fight i went in there throwing right hands and blew myself out lol,it went the 3 rounds but at least half of that i was blowing out my arse and fighting through raw adrenalin. Wish i could of fought that fight again cause i fought the wrong fight
My fight wound up being on near the end of the show. I had seen some real ass kickings prior to my going on so that made it a little more unnerving
