Pulev is 5-0 with 2 KO's since his only career loss to Wlad in 2014. The Cobra picked up the EBU (European) Heavyweight Title and the WBA Inter-Continental Heavyweight Title in the process. His last 5 opponents averaged over 36.4 wins coming in AND 4 of 5 were former world title challengers.

Ortiz (although very skilled) has a softer resume. His last significant win was vs a VERY faded Tony Thompson. It's been nearly 2 years since King Kong's biggest career win (KO 7 vs Bryant Jennings). Ortiz has since WASTED TIME. His last 2 fights were STINKERS..... an ugly decision win over Malik Scott and ....... a 7th rd KO over Devid Allen?!? WTF is that?!?
Complete Twaddle, its the other way round Luis Ortiz has fought the better opposition in his last five;
Ortiz's who is fighting Wilder anyway last 5 opponents were independently ranked 46-8-17-12-79 as opposed to Pulev's UR/96/12/65/55.

He beat Dereck Chisora. What was accomplished by the guy who you think deserves to be mandatory? The dude is ranked #4 on boxrec, which is pretty much good enough to actually carry an ABC belt, not just be a mandatory for one. It's not that unusual for a mandatory challenger to be outside the division's true top 15, whereas Pulev is inside the top 5. Pulev is way beyond criticizing, and you're looking like a joke for questioning his mandatory status.

If there was a heavyweight with good skills and a witherspoon or holyfield id agree, but the current crop suck. Wlad if hd wasnt so reticent would have put him away, but he is what he is.
You're talking about a Holyfield who was beaten by the 5th rate John Ruiz...and a Witherspoon who was beaten by Ray Mercer... Mercer was able to land 5 power punches on Wladimir Klitschko in 6 rounds while he was getting tattooed with the kitchen sink -- before getting stopped for the FIRST time in his career -- a pretty pathetic effort by Mercer I'd say... In sharp contrast the Joshua vs Klitschko Heavyweight Title Fight was much better, provided more action, and superior power punching than anything Witherspoon or Holyfield could gin up in their careers..

BTW...did Holyfield ever fight a 6'4" southpaw with murderous right hooks and uppercuts??? NOPE!!! Prime Ortiz would have clubbed Holyfield out. Because even John Ruiz floored poor Evander.. When has Luis Ortiz ever been down or hurt??? Never is when. The man is undefeated at 38 and ready for anybody in the world ... I won't mention how somebody else looked at 38 when he fought Larry Holmes.
Prime bowe was better than anything AJ has shown so far. Styles make fights. Holyfields footwork would cause AJ problems. If yoy knew squat about boxing youd know thst comparing how fighters did against common opponents doesnt give you an answer to how theyd do against one another.

When has ortiz actually fought anyone? The guy has skills but his resume sucks.
Luis Ortiz fought Bryant Jennings who's one Hell of a lot tougher and rangier than Ken Norton -- who was knocked kicking by 188-pound Jose Luis Garcia... Nobody came close to stopping Jenning but Ortiz murdered him... Prime Bowe was a punching bag who ducked Lewis... Bowe got punched all the time by the inept punching bag Andrew Golota -- who couldn't go 2 rounds with Brewster, Lewis, or Tyson -- but was beating Bowe up.

Wladimir Klitschko is at least 10 X as good a boxer and puncher as the ridiculous, brain addled Bowe -- and Joshua pounded WK out in his 19th pro fight... Holyfield HAD NO footwork -- or Evander would have boxed rings around John Ruiz the way David Haye and Roy Jones Jr did..

You know nothing about boxing... Pulev's only world class opponent was Wladimir Klitschko.. He proved to be a shockingly inept punching bag... Dereck Chisora is nothing. He was never anything and has no skills. Pulev barely beat Chisora and the fight was essentially a draw.. Haye destroyed a much more prime Chisora as easy as pie.. So did Fury.. Anybody else Pulev fought since Klitschko sucks to beat Hell and he did poorly.. Much better Heavyweights are Ortiz, Povetkin, Parker, Wilder, Ruiz, Miller, and Haye... Even Whyte is better than Pulev... Bryant Jennings at least didn't get slaughtered by Klitschko.

Says the guy who's complaining about the #4 heavyweight in the world getting a mandatory status. You sound like you were born yesterday. You're acting as though you have absolutely no sense of what an average mandatory challenger is.

This fight is expected, but not interesting. Please, folks that talk up Pulev by cutting Ortiz down, stop. Ortiz is more dangerous than Pulev. Pulev hasn't done anything since his blowout loss to Wlad to warrant a title shot. Pulev is a good outside boxer with a good jab, but doesn't have the footwork to match, so he is very easy to find. This is nothing more than a tune up for Joshua. There is a reason Pulev turned down a chance to fight Joshua before.

Everyone here would rather see a 38 yr old Ortiz fight Joshua than a 36 yr old Pulev, but Joshua nuthuggers will still try to justify it as the better fight. Pulev didn't stand a chance against a 38 yr old Wlad, and will get his ass handed to him vs Joshua even worse.

I don't CARE where anyone's ranked... If he's a good fighter I don't care if he's ranked 15th... If he's a horseshiit, I don't care if he's ranked # 1... I DO know what an average mandatory challenger is.. Vyacheslav Glazkov was a mandaory challenger for Fury.. He was a terrible mandatory.. Morrade Hakkar was a mandatory for Hopkins. He was 10 X worse.. Hopkins shrugged his shoulders apologetically because he was so embarrassed having to fight the bum.. You have no idea how to evaluate boxers based on their ability or skills. Pulev sucks doorknob.

You haven't seen the pulev Chisora fight. You're commenting on a fight you haven't watched.

If you have seen it you'd know the MD is a shocker and that it was a 10-2, 9-3 fight. Del Boy got no more than that. Chisora cannot be used as a beating stick for pulev.

Pulev won't beat Joshua, but he's a legit challenger and ranked around where he should be, he's amongst the better challenger around the contenders crop

I DID watch Pulev-Chisora... Chisora landed more punches because Pulev was wide open to the body... That's why the Swiss judge scored it for him... It really depends on what you like better because Pulev scored better to the head... It was a far cry from David Haye who took a prime Chisora apart in dominant fashion... Tyson Fury didn't let Chisora land anything in their rematch... Chisora is wide open, but so is Pulev...

There are many Heavyweights better than Pulev.. He is far from what a mandatory challenger for the Lineal Heavyweight Title should be and everyone knows who wins this... If Luis Ortiz, Deontay Wilder, or even Joseph Parker where challenging Joshua, there would be a real drama and anticipation -- a lot of electricity in the air. So many people thought Conor McGregor was going to upset Floyd Mayweather, at least there was some drama to that fight.

So, holyfield had no footwork, and bryant "no mark" jennings is a better win than over hall of famer norton.

You obviously are a troll. Its hilarious.

Im not even going to bother feeding it any more. Youre a comedy genius.

Most people would accept Pulev is a solid contender and would go along with the concensus view that he’s worth his ranking somewhere between the 5th and 8th best heavyweight around.

A agree Ortiz is better and the more attractive fight but it pisses me off bigtime that there are morons around (many uploading videos to you-tube) complaining that Joshua is ducking both Wilder and Ortiz.

Eddie Hearn has explained that Pulev has been his mandatory for a lot longer than Ortiz has been his mandatory (as opposed to the WBA’s). Now fair enough if you regard this as b/s and that the real reason is that he is an easier fight that Ortiz, but if that were the case, so what?

If these people had their way Joshua would fight Klitschko, Ortiz and Wilder in consecutive fights. I’m sure he’s capable but is that a fair thing to demand of any boxer?

The fact is Pulev is rated way higher than anyone Wilder has fought in nine years as a pro and he’s getting criticized because of it. Give him a break.

He and Wilder are on a collision course but why should Joshua be expected to do all the heavy lifting while Wilder is sat on his back porch in his rocking chair?

Hopefully Wilder will do his bit by taking on Ortiz. It seems he is serious about doing that which is something that I would not have believed even just a month ago.

Not exactly the Joshua fight I wanted to see but I'll be in the UK on that date, anyone know the ticket situation and when they go on sale ?
Round the year off in NYC for Rigondeaux v Lomachenko in December, should be an eventful last few months of the year.
