The last time Wilder faced a Southpaw (Szpilka) he was losing handily prior to scoring a KO. Ortiz can box better than Szpilka, and has more pop. I'd favor Ortiz to win here, because I just can't see Wilder being able to do to him what he did to Stiverne even though Ortiz has looked none too impressive as of late.

Obviously Wilder can possibly bail himself out with a big KO shot, but Ortiz has the power to knock him out too.
I also think Wilder has declined since he started to fight bums. He didn't gain any top level experience. He's the same windmiller. Ortiz has a nice set of boxing skills.

Age might be a factor. I'm sure Ortiz is over 40 and looked like crap in his last two fights.

I still think Ortiz KOs Wilder, whose an accident waiting to happen.

Ortiz is as strong as an Ox and a great counterpuncher. I've never seen Ortiz wobbled.

Age is key and Ortiz looked awful against his last two opponents.

You know, got the first time since the Stiverne fight, I'm rooting for Wilder :o
Weird?
Nope, I'm thinking ahead.
Who would you rather see against AJ?
Who would make it more exciting?
In my opinion it would be Wilder.
Ortiz Vs AJ would be a plodding cagey snoozer.
Wilder Vs AJ would be unpredictable and exciting.
I backed Wilder against Stiverne because I thought he would be the most exciting champion (at that time Wlad was the alternative  ) and for 2 years he has let me down. I'm giving him a second chance to beat Ortiz and go on to have a barnstormer against AJ :box:

Only a fool would think Al Haymon, the fixer, would leave this result to chance. The potential earning power of Wilder is at least TEN TIMES what Ortiz could earn. Please prove me wrong Haymon and let this fight be real. But the motive and incentives are there for Haymon to rig it as he has done so many times. Ortiz is old and desperate to cash out and serve his purpose as a pawn.

I don't think that's going to be anything to worry about. Why? Because I believe Haymon wants the fight and so, with a few reservations, does Wilder.

Why does Wilder want such a dangerous opponent - has he undergone a character transplant?

No, I think Deontay is a proud man and the criticism of his resume has now reached such a height that he genuinely wants to stick it to his critics even if doing so is a massive risk. Add to that Ortiz is starting to look like he might have hit the skids, so it's a gamble but Deontay might just have got him at exactly the right time.

It might seem like this is having a pop at Wilder but that isn't my intention. I mean it's great to be a hero and fight the best around if you're blessed with the talents of a Leonard or a Mayweather mark two, but those of less extravagant abilities must be a little more circumspect. It's easy for me to sneer at his previous lack of ambition from the comfort of my armchair, I realize that.

I just hope that whoever wins gets credit for beating another top 5 guy......instead of he was too old and shot, or he was an accident waiting to happen, etc so not a good accomplishment for either guy, either way.

I am very surprised that Wilder is gonna fight Ortiz, I just hope that it's gonna actually happen, no repeat of Wilder-Povetkin casus. I am not a big fan of Wilder neither Ortiz, it's gonna be an evenly matched fight that should answer every question about Wilder. should be a nice card with Breazeale-Stiverne, Jabocs and Lipinets fights already scheduled

That's why when I made pretty much the same comment in another thread I used Bryant Jennings rather than Tony Thompson, but ultimately the point is the same - Deontay better hope Luis has gone backwards in the last two years or he could be in for a difficult and painful night.

Ortiz looked great because of their style. He is counter-puncher who likes when someone is coming forward to his shots.

And that is not Deontay Wilder. He will fight from the outside. Ortiz will win first 4 rounds and than Wilder will start landing bombs . Ortiz will be already frustrated and tired. He will probably risk and Wilder will catch him with something big. King Kong will retire after being knocked out

Will there be a remarch in the contract, no matter who wins?

Wilder will have a rematch clause since it's a voluntary defense.

I'm happy for you that you can finally make a post about a Wilder opponent that isn't based around it being acceptable because he's testing out his hurt hand/bicep/arsehole etc.

Who did either beat to earn that ranking in your opinion?

It's not only about who beat who. For example Ortiz has decent skills , power and combinations. Rich amateur career and experience.

How can be someone in top hw tier "overrated" when there are not so much good boxers at all? What the fornicate

IronFrost I imagine that in his extensive and distinguished amateur career, Luis Ortiz has overcome boxers of most different styles and abilities and I don't believe Wilder would set any insurmountable problems for a Luis Ortiz at the top of his game. Does this mean I'm confident Senor Ortiz will win? Not a bit of it. In the immortal words of Sir Davos Seaworth : "Nothing f#%¥s you harder than time" and no fictional character ever uttered a truer statement.

It all depends what percentage of the very best Luis Ortiz remains in November 2017.

So what about the windmilling, can Deontay simply slug Ortiz out of there? Wilder has dealt with health issues related to his insane swinging, he's less able and willing to utilize it than before. Besides, it probably wouldnt work against a bonafide veteran like Ortiz.

Wilder is a tall fellow, this means that the punches that Ortiz connects with will have more on them than if Ortiz had to punch down.

Sounds like Wilder is getting knocked out or like he'll have to do loads of hugging and running.
The windmilling is the best chance I give him for winning. I hope he dosent break his hands on Ortiz's skull. He is not called King Kong for nothing. Ortiz has long arms, so even though he gives up some height, he has an inch over Wilder which makes his jab viable.

More leverage and power is generated punching down.
