I think refs in general these days are too lenient with the clinch. In turn this has developed a grabbing culture in boxing, combined with guys not being schooled properly in how to get inside and fight inside. People are too happy to fight on the outside and get tied up easily

It was kinda Klitchko-like. However, when Ward was fighting this way, it was called "master technician".
If you can get away with low blows, elbows and head butts then you are a master technician or cheat, take your pick.

I don't see clinching in the same way, or at least its not as bad. Usually a sign of tiredness (or justified fear as in Bonecrusher vs Tyson). What's the alternate? Get knocked out? Its a bit too late to have wished you'd done more stamina training when the other guy is trying to put your lights out. Even the best (Ali, Leonard etc) have been guilty of tying up/ holding at times.

All of these are down to 'bad' refereeing and can and should be prevented. Thankfully we have thumbless gloves nowadays.

Pretty odd quote there. I'm glad gassiev enjoyed that shitty fight. :maybe:

 I think Gassiev was just trying to be magnanimous there, more than anything.

Regarding the thread title. I don't think Briedis was deliberately cheating. I just think he doesn't know how to box a southpaw, which in turn is seriously bad news for when he boxes Usyk.

Wow, I can't believe he liked that fight. Briedis should've been DQ'd. Guy was like a damn octopus in there.

Usyk vs Briedis will be uglier than the Perez fight and a winner will depend on a promoter and venue.

Breidis wont be able to hold against Usyk. It will look more likely like Fury against Klischko lol. Easy work for Usyk
