Re: Bellew Reveals: Andre Ward's Demands Were Too Much

If Ward was truly the best pound for pound, people would want to see him fight. People paid to see Mayweather.
People wanted to see Mayweather LOSE. Because he had such an abrasive personality to some people. Ward doesn't motivate people to want to see him win or lose. He's got no charisma at all.RScarf1 wrote:If Ward was truly the best pound for pound, people would want to see him fight. People paid to see Mayweather.
You can't defend that belt. It's like a get out of jail free card. Not transferrable. He can just fight the wbc champion whenever he wants.Horse wrote:Bellew is still the WBC Emeritus champion.Ossyrules wrote:Glad this didn’t happen, ward vs Bellew is a total nothing fight. At least if Bellew still had the WBC tote or ward was looking at a route to atitke shot at a division, but none of that’s on the cards.
Providing extra weight didn’t kill wards engine he’d handily out box Bellew who isn’t close to him on ability
Could he not have defended that against Ward?
I agree, but I think people could appreciate the skill of Mayweather. Ward did not do anything exceptionally well except his dirty tactics.gilgamesh wrote:People wanted to see Mayweather LOSE. And his fights suck.
He did seem to be one of those guys that did everything good, but nothing great. The everything good was enough for him to win all his fights though. Most without controversy. He's a good fighter, I'd never take that away from him. I've just never enjoyed watching him.RScarf1 wrote:I agree, but I think people could appreciate the skill of Mayweather. This is a rather silly comment! It's funny though...RScarf1 wrote:If Ward was truly the best pound for pound, people would want to see him fight. People paid to see Mayweather.
x2.. 2.2 million people paid to see May/Canelo.. At least more than half of them paid to watch him lose.gilgamesh wrote:People wanted to see Mayweather LOSE. Possibly, if he lost, he would definitely lose that status.Horse wrote:Bellew is still the WBC Emeritus champion.Ossyrules wrote:Glad this didn’t happen, ward vs Bellew is a total nothing fight. He doesn't have to come in at 200 pounds or even 199.. RJJJ came in at 193 for his HW fightboxing_rocks wrote:Stevenson knocked out dehydrated Bellew who didn't belong to LHW division. Yes, Ward is a much better boxer, but he slowed down at 175 and would become even slower at 200, still remaining a slapper. In England, bigger and stronger Bellew would be allowed to rabbit punch, elbow, low blow -- all advantages Ward usually has, so I wouldn't be so confident in an outcome.gilgamesh wrote:Sure Size matters. Tony Bellew got knocked out by Adonis Stevenson remember? Ward would kick Stevenson's ass. He'd kick Bellew's ass too. He's a better fighter than Bellew.boxing_rocks wrote: So, opponent's size doesn't matter? Would he beat Joshua the same way?
Obviously he wouldn't be able to beat Joshua. Don't be ridiculous.
It's a status, not a title to defendRuthless-RKO wrote:Possibly, if he lost, he would definitely lose that status.Horse wrote:Bellew is still the WBC Emeritus champion.Ossyrules wrote:Glad this didn’t happen, ward vs Bellew is a total nothing fight. I see, he has the option, IF he returns to cruiserweight to challenge for the WBC title.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:It's a status, not a title to defendRuthless-RKO wrote:Possibly, if he lost, he would definitely lose that status.Horse wrote:Bellew is still the WBC Emeritus champion.

Yes, that's what I said earlier in the thread. Bellew certainly did more than vitali.Ruthless-RKO wrote:I see, he has the option, IF he returns to cruiserweight to challenge for the WBC title.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:It's a status, not a title to defendRuthless-RKO wrote:

TBH, I don't think Bellew did enough for to warrant being Emeritus champion.. Vitali was different altogether..

He did harpoon a whale, beat a golfer and defeat Danny Williams.Ruthless-RKO wrote:No I think Vitali did moreSaadOffTheDeck wrote:Yes, that's what I said earlier in the thread. Bellew certainly did more than vitali.Ruthless-RKO wrote:

TBF, he didn't fight the who's who of the division at the time, I think Wlad fought the better opposition at the time they were both on top. But Vitali made several successive defences.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:He did harpoon a whale, beat a golfer and defeat Danny Williams.Ruthless-RKO wrote:No I think Vitali did moreSaadOffTheDeck wrote: Yes, that's what I said earlier in the thread. Ward is delusional about himself.RScarf1 wrote:Ward believed that he had value that he did not have. It's like single mothers who think that having a kid does not make them any less desirable to single men.
Actually I think the reason why Vitali was granted "WBC Emeritus Champion" status was because of his 2nd run with the title when he came back and beat Sam Peter, and then held it for like 3 or 4 years or whatever. I know none of the names he beat during that time were particularly special, but I think that's why he has the WBC Emeritus status.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:I listed what he did to achieve this honor. While wlads resume is shallow in an atg sense, vitalis is nonexistent.

Of course he may have had it coming back in 2008 too. I don't recall. I suppose that would explain why he came back from a 4 year layoff to immediately get a shot at Peter.
He used that status to fight Peter. He was the scrub they invented that for.gilgamesh wrote:Actually I think the reason why Vitali was granted "WBC Emeritus Champion" status was because of his 2nd run with the title when he came back and beat Sam Peter, and then held it for like 3 or 4 years or whatever. Between Vitali's two WBC title reigns. The title wasn't really held by anyone credible. Vitali knew the right time to come back.SaadOffTheDeck wrote: ↑03 Oct 2017, 16:01He used that status to fight Peter.
