You are an idiot who doesn't know sh1t about boxing.Counter-puncher wrote:BAD INTENTIONS wrote: He wasn't called the Executioner because he was landing 10 punches a round. He used to stop most of his opponents.
..you mean, apart from the 10 or so Middleweight title fights of his that went 12 rounds? what a putz you are.
I wouldn't go that far.phillykid wrote:Bad Intentions is correct if he's talking about prime BHOP from 95-99, who KO/TKO'd everyone he fought except like 2 fighters.
Prime Hopkins had everything, intelligence, technique, speed and power, and was battering undefeated dangerous fighters like Joe Lipsey and Glen Johnson.
That version of Hopkins is almost unbeatable and would even beat Sugar Ray Robinson imo.
Hagler, Monzon and Harry Greb would be a hell of a hard time for him too. Plus I figure a guy like Tiger Flowers would trouble him.BAD INTENTIONS wrote: I wouldn't go that far.
But, after watching Hopkins dismantle Tarver, and even impose himself physically,
I said that prime Hopkins would beat any 160 pounder all-time except SRR.
To me, the main factor is defense. Prime Hopkins can reduce ANY fighter's work rate.
He also was able to maintain a lightweight movement pace for 12 rounds.
Prime Hopkins would shutout prime GGG.
"Styles make fights" and GGG is tailor made for Hopkins.
I think we tend to underrate the term "all-time great defense".gilgamesh wrote:Hagler, Monzon and Harry Greb would be a hell of a hard time for him too. Plus I figure a guy like Tiger Flowers would trouble him.BAD INTENTIONS wrote: I wouldn't go that far.

Some of your speedier Middleweights could give him a lot of problems too. Hopkins has trouble with exceptional speed. Hell most anybody does.
I figure Hearns would be a handful for him as well.
Hagler was a sharp boxer as well who had solid all around boxing skills including defense in his own right. Monzon too. Now Greb as I understand it was more of a relentless swarmer type so maybe Hops would be able to shut that down.BAD INTENTIONS wrote: I think we tend to underrate the term "all-time great defense".
An all-time great offense is really a gamble against another great.
However, that defense is a constant.
What does Hagler, Monzon and Greb do when Hopkins takes away their top 2 offensive weapons.
And he can do that with his ALL-TIME GREAT DEFENSE. Not 90's great ...
ALL-TIME GREAT.
Once again, all-time great. Let’s stop underrating defense. In football, people pick teams with dominant defenses in their greatest teams of all time list because people respect the constant of great defense.gilgamesh wrote:Hagler was a sharp boxer as well who had solid all around boxing skills including defense in his own right. You act as if Hagler and Monzon were completely inept defenders or something. They had great defense too, and Monzon similarly to Hopkins often fought at a measured pace.BAD INTENTIONS wrote: Once again, all-time great. Let’s stop underrating defense. Hagler looked pretty inept against a Welterweight coming off a 3-year-layoff -- who (SRL) looked terrible in his last fight with Kevin Howard.. Hag was pretty damned limited and couldn't even deck or stop Marcos Geraldo out who'd been knocked out 10 times before.. Hopkins looked like crap against the minimally aggressive and completely hittable Jermain Taylor, a guy who couldn't stop a punch with anything but his face.. Golovkin has one of the best jabs in the game.. He would be on the light punching Hopkins like Kovlev was and totally outwork him.jamamb wrote:agree that hop clowns gennady 'face defense'. prob 12-0 in realty but judges would prob be generous and score more around 10-2/9-3
prme hagler could box though. hes not nearly as lmted as ggg plus hes an even better 'fghter'.he ant gettng totally shut down. guys dd win rounds aganst hop btw. wasnt totally untouchable.
Exactly. Like he clowned Kovalev and Taylor before that.jamamb wrote:agree that hop clowns gennady 'face defense'. prob 12-0
He was in his 40's in both of those fights. Hell he was 49 for the Kovalev fight. So those aren't the best examples of what Hopkins would've been capable of in his prime.boxing_rocks wrote:Exactly. Golovkin is really quite a strong favourite to beat Trinidad. It’s hard to say otherwise imo. Puncher be puncher always favours the guy who has a bit of something else other than the big shots, ie golovkin, jab, cutting off the ring.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:Hopkins would be favored, but not as much as people are making out. Conversely, GGG isn't as big a favorite against Tito as people are making out either. Golovkin has never faced anyone with that kind of power and while he had poor foot movement he was a very technical puncher. He also hit harder than Hopkins at Middleweight. Ask Joppy.
Hopkins would never beat Roy while Roy had his speed and reflexesBAD INTENTIONS wrote:I wouldn't go that far.phillykid wrote:Bad Intentions is correct if he's talking about prime BHOP from 95-99, who KO/TKO'd everyone he fought except like 2 fighters.

Ggg isn't a better boxer than Trinidad by any significant margin. Tito wasn't some crude slugger.Ossyrules wrote:Golovkin is really quite a strong favourite to beat Trinidad. I’m on board with you about Hopkins though. He’s favoured in this match up but it’s not foregone
