Canelo beats Thurman and beats him well

Keith Thurman states that he’d like to make a voluntary defence (to rid himself of his ring rust, due to his enforced layoff), before he willingly faces the winner of the Shawn Porter vs. Adrian Granados fight.
Whilst the WBC is likely to demand that Thurman performs a long overdue mandatory defence of his title, I reckon they’ll grant him special permission to make an interim voluntary defence against a mediocre opponent, prior to engaging in a likely rematch against Shawn Porter.
Golden Boy Promotions and HBO are rarely willing to work with Al Haymon fighters’ and I don’t think that ‘One Time’ is as financially lucrative a name as Amir Khan, which means that a bout between Canelo and Thurman seems distinctly improbable to ever take place.
Politics, schedules/timing, size and money are the main reasons why we won’t get to witness a bout between Canelo and Thurman.

Canelo has never clearly beaten a top fighter.

Thurman probably is thinking of moving up, now Andrade (who beat Thurman 3 or 4 times in the amateurs) is campaigning at 160. Also with Spence and Crawford at 147, he may be better off at 154.

Like everybody wanted Flloyd, now everybody wants Canelo. Thurman would have to run the whole fight and lose a decision or he would be flattened by much stronger Canelo.

He clearly beat Cotto for sure. I've never understood people acting as if that fight was even remotely close. I thought his win over Lara was pretty clear as well personally, though I know some people preferred Lara's approach, Canelo's body shots carried that fight for me.

WTF.
Canelo won clearly the fight vs Cotto and he has a lot of more rivals of quality than Thurman.
Fights vs the best superwelter weight of the world and the best middleweight in years, and both fights were too competitive and close.
Canelo is clearly a better fighter than thurman, better skills, better opposition, more experience in big leagues, he showed a great chin, for sure you are the only guy that thinks will be competitive.
Canelo beats Thurman clearly...

Thurman Fans couldn't have been too happy to see Thurman's interview Saturday Night. To me, I saw a boxer softening up physically and mentally. The platform was there to market a Thurman vs Spence Jr. 2018 tilt and Thurman did nothing to sell it. Thurman's body language and words not only made me think that the fight wouldn't happen in 2018 but also that his heart just wasn't in this thing anymore. Talking about marriage and a different state of mind...he's all done.

I wouldn't say that, he isn't some sadistic seek and destroy ko artist. He definitely didn't look comfortable being so close to Spence. With good reason, Errol would rip him apart.

Thurman said there is no way he would go to 160 to fight Canelo, and I really doubt if Canelo would drop to 154 to fight Spence. Not happening.

Canelo is an A side by far. He won't drop a pound.

I do not think Cotto (Nov 2015) was a top fighter.
Sorry. I think he was already badly faded at the time and would be beaten by the top 5+ at 147, 154, and 160.
I scored the Trout fight 114-114 Canelo.
I scored the Lara fight 115-113 Lara.
So I'm not saying that Canelo can't compete with the best. He's solid.
But he has never clearly beaten a top fighter.
I think that should be a requirement for P4P lists.

Cotto has never been a top fighter above 147.

Both ESPN and also The RING rated Cotto as a top-ten pound-for-pounder after the Marquez victory.

Alvarez just did a 1.35 million ppv-selling event. Obviously various people would want that paycheck. He's obviously in the hunt for the biggest payday, without regard for other factors. Would be a decent fight, but Alvarez would still be a heavy favorite. In other words, Golovkin is much more effective at middleweight than Thurman is.

At the end both errol and thurman bwill move up....
Sorry, but this is a really stupid thread. You need to read what Thurman actually said, which is no way in hell would he go to 160. Canelo is not giving up any advantages being the A side.

The moron probably meant a win over the one-eyed Margarito which was about as big of achievement as a win over the crippled Martinez.

Martinez.

You knew who I was referencing to, despite my obvious typo, but you chose to mock the typo itself rather than openly admit that I was right about Cotto being rated as a genuine pound-for-pounder after he catpured the WBC middleweight title.

The "moron" made a typo, pity me. I did mean Martinez.
However, I am right about Cotto being rated by both ESPN and also The RING as a top-ten pound-for-pounder after capturing the WBC middleweight title.
Almost no fûckër that frequented this forum at the time moaned about Cotto regaining a top-ten pound-for-pound ranking after the Martinez victory.
It doesn't surprise me that you've chosen to mock the typo instead of conceding the fact that you're wrong about Cotto never being considered "a top fighter above 147."
It must hurt real bad being disproven by someone you consider a "moron."

You didn't disprove anyone. It was no typo, just a stupid mistake on your behalf. If Cotto was on the pfp list, Trout should have been too after dominating Cotto a couple of fights earlier.

If somebody is put on a p4p list for beating a cripple, then those lists are worthless. Cotto hasn't achieved much above 147.
