You guys are very contradicting yourself. You always say how important a long career, staying in shape is, but than forget that a lot of years of tysons and alis career were awful compared to other greats like federer, jordan, messi.

Michael Jordan is big and has been marketed even bigger. There’s people with more bball knowledge than me here, but any conversation I have re basketball and Jordan never gets the goat nod

Messi is an unreal footballer. I’m huge football fan. Messis stardom will never come close to Ali though. Neither has maradona, CR7, R9, pele probably closest.

Boxing is different though. These guys aren't getting pounded in the skull every time they play their sport. And those sports are set up for those guys to face the best in their sport at least once a year. Comparing these sports to boxing is like apples and oranges. You are right. Playing and getting punched in the head are 2 different things. But you have to aggree that staying in shape, having the mindset of perfection and traini g at the highest level any athlete can do boxer and non boxer right?

Look at pacquiao, always in shape trained like possessed, always the desire to win, always faced the best, climbed divisions like it was nothing. That is the closest career of a goat like career for a boxer. And had floyd been a Spectacular enyojing to watch boxer than floyd would ve been in the conversation. Cause in Terme of training atitude, longvidity and brilliance no one can deny he was superb.

Imagine somebody with the skills of prime jones and the training atitude of mayweather and marketebility of de la hoya. That would be a guy above jordan.

I have to admit, I'm not up on the older fighters like that. Not even Ali. I assumed he was in shape when he was on top.

Either way, your criteria for what makes a megastar is different than most. Worldwide I'd assume Ali is more of an icon than any other sporting star in the past 100 years. To me, that is the ultimate megastar.

Sure, i guess you could say he wasnt the most dedicated. Which I am not qualified to argue. But maybe you should change your thread title to dedicated instead of megastar.

To late. I made my point clear.

Yes ali, tyson were all megastars at some point.

But they didnt have the near perfect and long career of jordan or messi.

Being at the top for 8 years like tyson and ali is just a bit poor compared to federer who has been brilliant for 15 years.

The correct thread title wouldbe been

Boxing never had a MEGASTAR with a GOAT like career and longvidity.

Tyson was mostly out of shape and in jail. And ali had lay offs and not a good training atitude.
