...Not sure what that means
If boxing offered me as a fan a situation in the future where there would be only 2 belts instead of 4, I would take them up on it for sure.

So I agree that 2 is too many, but it’s a damn side better than what we have now
Of course, any improvement is welcome. But why fix it half assed, when you can fix it completely.
There’s more likelyhood of getting 5 or 6 belts than there is 2, so unfortunately we can’t fix it at all!

There’s actually already 5 if you, and a lot of people do on here but I don’t personally, credit the wba normal as a world champion.

The IBO are making noises like they could become the new WBO type body...

Maybe we should enjoy 4 while we still have it :verysad:

People are disposed to think the way it was when they grew up, to be he way it should be, and I guess I'm no different.

I grew up in the era of 2 titles and I liked it that way because:

1) if someone was really being ducked by one guy, they did have the other option; and

2) It allowed a good 1 or 2 year build up to huge fights as the two champs cleaned out the division, ala Leonard/Hearns, Curry/McCrory or Spinks/Qawi.
2 titles does create the opportunity of a meaningful unification fight.

It’s not even just the top belts that’s the problem, it’s the silver interim intercontinental shite as well

It wouldn't be the first time Hearn lied. Parker's promoter Higgins said Hearn offered 20% of the purse to them. I'm not sure why they would make that up so I would believe them over Hearn.

How much is 20% though. Itd be handy to know that before it gets called a shite offer.

How much is Parker earning in his previous fights?
How much is Joshua earning?

If you know the answers to those we’ll know how much each guy roughly brings to the table

I can't see there being enough money in this fight to satisfy what the two fighters are likely to want paying. I'd like to be wrong. I'd pick Wilder but it wouldn't shock me greatly if Parker scored an upset.

If the Joshua fight doesn't come off right away, I think Wilder will take on whoever he can get a match with, barring anyone getting suspended for PED use. He was on his way to Russia to fight Povetkin when he got the call that it was off... He was willing to get in the ring with Ortiz - one of the division's most feared men when the same thing happened... He's been calling out Joshua for over a year and Tyson Fury before that.. I don't think his willingness should be questioned. So yeah, Parker is a good pick if all else falls through.

Yea, except that he was being out of shape, celebrating holiday in the UK knowing months beforehand the fight would never happen. Hasn't proved himself in his entire carreer and I very much doubt he will fight Parker without massive unfair advantages.

Then... you would play Parker's hand quite badly. You're saying that if you were the highest-ranked heavyweight 25 years or under, you had a belt and tons of potential to make tens of millions of dollars in your career, and you deserved like 45% of the purse, then your dumbass would GLADLY accept 20%? You would be like the dumbest version of Joseph Parker that ever Joseph Parkered. Like if someone had a treasury bond worth $10,000 and you're like "If I were you, I would gladly sell that bond for $3,000 cold hard cash. ACTUALLY... I would trade it for three magical beans."

I like Parker a lot actually, but we can all see what happens when he steps up against guys Wilder never dared to fight. Pretty much nothing happens, after Takam, Hughie and Andy Ruiz his pockets are still quite empty. He doesn't have the media in his pockets like that bumfighter has and neither like AJ has. So good luck, but without AJ he won't achieve a lot. Molina would have never regretted it today, if he fought Wilder for free back then either. Same thing for Duhaupas, but I guess such things are too complicated for guys like you. Breazeale, Whyte, name them will also never regret fighting AJ for peanuts.

I think it highlights also that 4 belts is too many. Parker should be a contender working his way up and learning, but now he has to masquerade as a champ and learn on the job, so the whole situation isn’t quite as easy as it could be for him
Any more than one belt is too many for a world champion.
Parker is an accidental champion. No one thought he could beat Takem. The opportunity came up, Takem thought he was in for an easy night, a very decent payday and didn't mind travelling. That win bumped Parker up to #1 contender and the belt became vacant. Who can blame him for giving it a go? So here he is, a target with a belt. Vastly inexperienced, small for the current crop, and way over his head
Bit he is giving it a go, it's taxing being a fan as every fight for him seems 50/50 or worse. But as someone has said, Wilder at 25 was not fighting at nearly as high a level as little Joey Parker- the achitypical underdog. In fact, I don't think Wilder has fought anyone as lively as Takem yet.
No one thought he could beat takam? Parker was favored by a good bit in that fight.

ya it was the takam fight when a lot of ppl first starting realizing hes okay but nothing special.hed been expected by most to boss that. i had it a draw actually.

i think parker vs wilder or aj is pretty much a sure thing loss so id want big, big money if i were on his side. then again, jp with how hes looked in recent fights could lose before it ever gets to that.

Lackeos wrote: 05 Nov 2017, 15:09 Parker doesn't need this headache. He's still only 25, and a fight with a top 3 heavyweight is not a good career move for him right now. He is best off taking winnable fights and gradually improving over time, a.k.a. the Calzaghe route. Wilder has never had the courage to fight a top 3 heavyweight, especially by the green young age of 25. When Wilder was Parker's age, he was fighting Damon Reed, Dominique Alexander, and Daniel Cota.

But since Wilder is 32 and totally ready for a proper challenge, I would certainly like to see him fight Joshua, Povetkin, Ortiz, or Pulev (or Tyson Fury). Apart from that, I think the WBC needs to put together an eliminator of respectable contenders to offer Wilder a better challenger. I would be happy with an eliminator that featured any combination of Whyte, Ruiz, Takam, Wach, Kabayel, and Kownacki (or fighters not presently ranked by the WBC, like Hammer and Miller).
I tend to agree. Parker is very green and on top of what you said, he also does not have an Am pedegree either. He needs to build up better opponents to make a fight with AJ or Wilder competitive. Maybe someone like Brazeale or anyone tall and game. Let's not forget that compared to Wilder and AJ, Parker is pretty short as well. I've seen pictures of him standing next to both and it's quite a difference. Parker is about the same size as Bellew and Haye. He struggled with Cojanu who is tall. The only problem is that Parker is not one to dodge fights, Huey Fury being a prime example. He could have ditched that after Fury hurt his back but didn't.

Anthony Joshua is in the same position.

Because there are so many belts, the talent pool is thin & he has now found himself as champion whilst he is still learning.

He proved against Wladimir that he is tough, willing & game, but he is not the finished article yet & because he is such a big draw & a PPV attraction, he will fight so infrequently that he might never truly learn his trade.
