Broadcast Team: HBO vs. Showtime

Showtime for me.
I like Malinaggi, Berstein, and Gray.

to comment on a previous post, i honestly dont think paulie calls it as it is, he has a huge stylistic bias that comes out in his commentary , and his interviews, tweeting, etc too
that said, most commentary teams are really so biased anyway, so even then paulie might be among the lesser bias. nick halling used to be terrible and constant cheerleading , and hbo has been awful with it for years now. with the power shift in boxing broadcasting they seem to concentrate more on hyping up fighters then they used to when pretty much all the big names were on hbo
worst i ever saw was irish commentary , for ben dunne fights. they would literally just go silent when he was in trouble and act like nothing was happening. watch the cordoba fight. but then go way over the top with any success he had. aussie commentary is often pretty awful and hugely biased too. in particular for danny green fights, aussie forum posters were hugely on greens nuts too, they must have an obsession with him down there.

Re: Broadcast Team: HBO vs. Showtime
funniest thing ive seen in commentary thought mightve been danish commentary when mikkell kessler won his first world title, vs manny siaca i think
the danish commentator just absolutely screams 'MIKKEL KESSLERS THE F@CKING CHAMPION OF THE WORLD!"

Dunne-Cordoba was as funny as I have seen in years for blatant bias. Back in the day the aussie commentators got pretty excitable over Jeff Fenech, to similar levels. Their reaction to his filthy brawl with, uh, fvck, Mexican veteran anyway, hilarious fight and commentary, exchanging vicious low blows and clashing together like bulls and the commentators using up nearly as much energy going nuts over it all. Particularly when Fenech retaliated, they're pretty much cheering him, it's brilliant.
Marcos Villasana, that's the one.

Fenech threw a knee at him at one point IIRC

Not sure about the full video but the quote was part of the Boxing Asylum intro so you can hear it if you go on their YouTube and watch one of the old videos.

Both high quality ... though Lampley adds a level of class that no other commentator in any sport can compete with ...
... (Roy and Paulie are both annoying little twits) ...

Showtime
Though I have a soft spot for Jim Lampley still because of my early days of Boxing fandom, I preferred it when he was partnered with Larry Merchant and Emanuel Steward

Merchant trumps Kellerman all day. Larry was lit at times and his commentary was hilarious at times.

Re: Broadcast Team: HBO vs. Showtime
I always appreciated Merchant. I usually agreed with him, and I felt like he said a lot of things that the others would've pussyfooted around or not brought up at all.
Re: Broadcast Team: HBO vs. Showtime
Merchant: "The crowd, at least a good part of it, is in an uproar because they felt that you took shots at him unfairly after you were -- went together in the ring, made up for the headbutt, and then you poked him. What's your story?'Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑29 Dec 2018, 16:19Don’t forget Mayweather.oogiebe wrote: ↑29 Dec 2018, 16:10And he pissed off Mike Tyson...macademics wrote: ↑29 Dec 2018, 15:51 Merchant trumps Kellerman all day. Mayweather: "First off, I wanna thank God for this victory, because without God all this wouldn't be possible. I wanna thank my team. I got hit with a dirty shot, and, um, it's protect yourself at all times. I hit him with a left hook-right hand, and that ended the bout."
Merchant: "So you're saying that even though it appeared that he didn't -- wasn't protecting himself, and thought that was part of the ceremony you were going through, of apology, that you unfairly took advantage of it. What do say to those that say, 'What'd you do there? You were winning the fight and in charge.'"
Mayweather: "I just wanna tell everybody that bought pay-per-view, that came out to Las Vegas, thank you. It was a hell of a fight."
Merchant: "Floyd, you know you're a promoter, but now we're talking to you as a prizefighter. Let's take a look at what happened at the end of the fight, and you describe it."
Mayweather: "We touch -- we touch gloves. We're back to fighting. Hook. Right hand. And that's all she wrote."
Merchant: "So for you, it was just an automatic response, let's get on with the fight."
Mayweather: "It's protect yourself at all times. He done something dirty. We're not here to cry and complain about what he did dirty, or what I did dirty. I was victorious. If he wants a rematch, he can get a rematch."
Merchant: "You were in charge of the fight. You were aggressive. And trying, and taking advantage of--"
Mayweather: "You know what I'm gonna do? 'Cause you don't never give me a fair shake, you know that? So I'm gonna let you go and talk to Victor Ortiz, alright? I'm through. Put somebody else up here and give me an interview."
Merchant: "What are you talking about? What are you talking about?"
Mayweather: "You never give me a fair shake! HBO needs to fire you! You don't know shit about boxing! You ain't shit! You not shit!"
Merchant: "I wish I was 50 years younger and I'd kick your ass!"
Mayweather: "You won't do shit!"
Re: Broadcast Team: HBO vs. Showtime
tbf to merchant there the ending is what most ppl were talking about and the debates went on for a while (imo ortiz deserved to be smacked like that). it seemed like floyd had that outburst just as merchant was going to something new
merchant--well, sometimes he was funny and showed some intelligent wit and insight, but other times he seemed like a sloppy drunk

Larry never minced his words for no one. No fighter is above the sport and I say that feeling that Ortiz deserved that punch from Floyd so quickly. He initiated the dirty tactics so fornicate it.
