Danny may not have to land a punch that KOs Vitali to win by stoppage...
Vitali has been so defensive thus far in his career he has only really been hit by Lennox who cut him to ribbons.....

If Danny can land some decent shots, he does have fast hands, he may get Klit marked up and bleeding

But we're not exactly tripping over decent heavyweight challengers these days, are we? Who really deserves a shot at Vitali in December then?
the guys who are ranked 1-5 in the wbc.

This isn't a mandatory, so what does that have to do with it? Vitali can fight whoever he wishes until such time as he has to nfight a mandatory which is some way off yet.

since when did the rankings of boxing bodies mean anything anyhow?

Not sure on this, people who have fought can tell me more here.

But I think Williams will match Vitaly for strength and weight, and whislt sure VK can lean on Danny, like LL used too, he just doesn't throw successfully on the inside, its the methodical 1-2 where he scores....I'd also like to see a big hitter go the body more on VK...

Where do you guys and galls reckon which venue they should hold the fight at? The Vegas places look cool to have them at like the MgM.

IMO you have to fight the No.1 within half a year when you won the title the first time. so he has to fight fat Toney. but it seems that the WBC has become the same hollywood-mickey-mouse-belt like the wbo. It´s a total joke to fight Williams. it´s a farce. a guy who might be not able to become british champion fights for the wbc-belt. joke of the year.

Bubi,

You may be right but Toney has to beat Rydell Booker to secure the mandatory position which proves a few things:

1 - Firstly, VK is entitled to 'work' whilst he waits for the outcome of that fight

2 - The WBC rankings mean dick if Booker can leap into a eliminator fight.

So get over yourself and embrace an intriguing contest between two Europeans for effectively the Heavyweight championship (Ruiz/Byrd) not withstanding.

Vitali has been fighting always more than twice a year when he was not injured. the main reason of this long "inactivity" was the law suit vs. Kohl. For Williams it would have been better to fight Brewster in order to get world champion. if he gets koed soon in this fight he would be back at domestic level, where he had enough problems to be britains #1.

Williams will not be back at domestic level for at least three years regardless of his results, the Tyson win ensures he will earn as a contender or profile opponent for years.

Even if he loses to VK I could see another title shot within twelve months...just ask Monte Barret, Jameel McCline....a title lost dont mean shit - you think he goes from VK to Skelton if he loses.

Nah.

Audley Harrison

Not going to happen for at least 12 months.

Harrison is uinjured until new year and will not be matched that tough.

Williams will not fight until probably March regardless of the VK result?

So a return to domestic level is not on Williams' agenda.

David is right, McCline lost to Klitschko (the forgotten one) yet is still recognised as a legitimate contender, but that probably has more to so with the weakness of the division rather than McCline's longevity. Anyway if he loses which i think he will, Williams will still be able to hang around the title mix especially if he puts on a good show, he really needs to have a go at Vitali and rock him and demand respect. Klitschko is no unbeatable force but he is very strong and very effective, Danny will need to work very hard on his fitness and conditioning and McDonnell is the right man for that job, if Williams comes in heavy at around 18 stone or so he needs to come in a fit 18 stone if that makes any sense...not the blubbery imposter that turned up to fight Sprott.

the blubbery imposter for the Sprott fight was actually lighter than the guy who turned up and handed Mike Tyson his Ass......

Danny is always in good condition physically.....

Joke of the year? Where have you been lately, on the moon?
What about the guy Williams knocked out in 30 seconds, who got a shot at Brewster a few weeks back? Or Spinks/Gonzalez on the same bill?

It's just business as usual in the wacky world of boxing, and Williams getting a shot at Vitali is mild by comparison.

I get the feeling that we're going to see Williams enter the ring in a similar frame of mind to last time. This is clearly an even bigger step up for him, where most will surely pick against him. If Danny can win the battle with himself again it's a huge plus.

And before any of those wise fellas (those who have that amazing ability to sit back and evaluate while the rest of us supposedly lose our minds and take two-footed leaps onto the bandwagon) shoot me down I don't expect Danny to win. If Klitschko can cope with the frightening early onslaught of Corrie Sanders then he ought to be able to cope with just about anything. BUT it has to be said there isn't another heavyweight out there who could produce the sustained power-punching attack achieved by Williams in July.

This fight is a win win. Put as much money as you dare on Vitali. If he loses-

SO THE HELL WHAT WE HAVE A NEW BRITISH WORLD HW CHAMP. that's worth more than money.

incidentally, any odds available yet?

being Irish, there are few British boxers I like. Williams is one of them and I hope he does Klitschko, but I can't see it happening. he will freeze mentally. This isn't a washed up Tyson 19 months out of the ring. this is a monster heavyweight who can punch HARD and who Williams will FEAR.

This is a 60 second job.

Just what everyone was saying about the Tyson fight too. Are you telling me Tyson can't punch HARD, and that Danny had no fear?
Same thing, only slightly less intimidating - in fact, I reckon Vitali will be slightly imtimidated getting in the ring with Williams, judging by his reaction to an overweight golfer last time out.

Williams had all the advantages over Tyson. We've all seen how Tyson deteriorated over he years and exactly how to beat him. Vitali gave Lewis a his hardest fight for a few years (was on his way to beating him IMO) and has KO'd 2 good fighters in between. Fair enough Johnson was 300lbs, but even THAT Johnson would probably beat Harrison/hide/Skelton in my opinion. Sanders was in no shape but had done a demolishion on Wlad previously. I would like to see Williams win, but I just can't see him doing it. I can't see him outboxing Vitali because he's bound to get caught with that fast 1-2 several times.

Brewster KO'd Wladimir, doesn't mean to say he is any good.

Sanders KO'd Wladimir, doesn't mean to say he is any good.

Sanders was a semi retired, semi pro golfer, who has admited that "nervous energy" made left him f'd after one round. Sanders has no defence and is very chinny (Arthur Stormy Weathers had him down). Yet Vitali struggled against Sanders. It was a good win on paper in this climate, but in reality it was a performance which left us asking more questions than before and leaving us ruing "what would have happend if an in shape Sanders (who lets face was 38 and never that good) done".

Similarly with Lewis, yes Vitali showed great heart and a solid chin. However, Lewis was 18 stone, fat, and not motivated (as he was "training" for Johnson). Lewis was supposed to be chinny, yet looked iron chinned against Vitali. Perhaps Lewis had a good chin after all, but two chinny fighters lasting well against Vitali.

Lets not forget, Vitali was looking weary towards the end of the Sanders fight and, against Lewis, he took an age to get back to his corner and even when the fight was over was still way out of breath during his interview a full 10 minutes after the fight ended (if not more).

Yeah he whacked Johnson and Hide, but these two have extremely poor punch resistance (Ruiz almost stopped Johnson legitmately). Johnson also clearly didn't prepare and want to be there.

Obed Sullivan extended Vitali, but was whacked out by David Tua in one.

I'm a fan of Vitali and I do think he is the #1 heavyweight out there, however he is far from superman. He has a lot of weakness than Danny can exploit.

Of course, Danny has weakness too - but stamina isn't one of them.
