No they didn’t. Calzaghe was a very slight underdog, but not far from evens - I remember as I put a bet on it. The ‘myth’ that everyone thought he was going to get beaten has grown over time, and even Calzaghe has perpetuated it.
But it was a bloody masterclass that’s for sure! He ruined poor lacy, he shut up Lacy’s hideous screeching girlfriend.

Really? Wow, that surprises me. I guess the Lacy hype and the fact he was this muscular US star swayed them... but the bookies (the real experts in boxing) had a couple of cigarettes between the two. I remember I bet £100 on Joe and the odds were something like 5/4 at the most.

Yeah calzaghe was looking beatable, and lacy had just smashed the shite out of Reid, who had barely been hurt in his entire career and had never been knocked out.

100% this is the first one that came to my mind.
Not just the way he knocked Butler out which was quality in its own way but from the very first bell this fella was different class.The technique,defence,the ease of movement,the snappy shots all combined.Gave Butler an absolute lesson then chinned him.

I remember watching Honeyghan vs Starling, it struck me at the time as a boxing lesson. Starling drew Lloyd’s sting early doors, then imposed himself.
