That's pretty much my take on it.
Although Ortiz may have slipped and been inactive enough for Wilder to consider it for real. But I don't count my chickens until they are actually in the ring.

Looks like they'll actually make this fight if the antics of Ortiz and Wilder in the ring recently are anything to go by.

Wilder and his team often pretent to step up, but in the end fight a bum anyway. AJ and Parker are the only ones who actually shows up against good opposition.

Wilder by clearcut decision. He boxes and moves like in the first Stiverne fight.

If that's true then it didn't happen by accident. It's not because he's black, it's not because he's a country boy from 'Bama, it's not because he isn't entertaining to watch.

It's the fact that he brags incessantly about how he's the greatest and the most feared, and how nobody wants to fight him yet after nine years and 39 fights hasn't fought anyone better than Bermane Stiverne. A lot of those you say hate him, don't hate him at all, they just want to see the guy fight someone formidable. Is Ortiz that man? I don't know. He was, but at his age he might be done. A cynic might say Wilder obviously thinks so or he wouldn't be considering him.

He turned down a massive offer to fight Dillian Whyte in London. What explanation is there for his rejection of double his career best payday? Is it because evil uncle Eddie wanted options on his future fights? Maybe, but I only ever heard that from a couple of posters on boxrec, I never heard that from Wilder. Surely if that were true he'd be shouting about it from the rooftops, rather than have people believe he is running scared of Whyte. I'm told Dibella said something but wouldn't he make a lot more of it if it were true?

Wilder claims he wants to unify with Joshua but his intransigent demands for a 50/50 split suggest to me that he'd be quite happy if the fight never gets made. The trouble with that is that one day even the badhuskers of this world are going to start wondering why it's only the cabdrivers who make it as far as sharing the ring with him.

I second that, not going to get excited about this fight until just before the ring walk, I do however think Ortiz is a massive problem for wilder, and could definitely expose him even at the age of 38, all the champs have ducked Ortiz for long enough he's now pushing 40 so no excuses on wilder behalf

Also just heard that JOSHUA VS PARKER is close and maybe set for March 2018.
WILDER VS ORTIZ For around the same time with the winners meeting sometime in Aug - Sept 2018.

Is that supposed to be impressive? Is it really impressive to you that an Olympic medalist who turned pro in 2008, who has 39 fights, who has held a title for almost three years, who has defended his title six times was twice signed to fight top contenders?

Wilder isn't a hated boxer by most, though his resume is. Sure, there are trolls on both side of the fence, but the majority of boxing fans would like to see a *little* more accomplishment than twice being signed to fight top contenders. You may be surprised to learn that some champions actually fight multiple top contenders.

I want the biggest fights, and I love to see nothing more than Wilder beat Ortiz to set up a fight between the Parker/AJ winner. I believe the winner of that fight to be the best heavyweight in the world. And I would have zero problem with Wilder being the ultimate winner. In the meantime I don't think it's outrageous that he is not "worshiped" as you say for almost having two good fights sprinkled in to his 39 disappointments.

Canelo turned pro at 15 years old genius. He's five years younger than Wilder and didn't have anywhere near the amateur career or backing as Wilder. Wlad's resume over his first 39 was far from incredible, but it was significantly better than Wilders.

And then they both went on to fight the best in the world and succeed at the highest level. If Wilder does that then all will be forgiven. He hasn't yet.
