This fight pretty much ruined Cleverly he's never been the same since.

I disagree. It showed the true level of Clev

I actually mentioned this on the Kevin Satchell thread.

When he fought Rokas he had a 10lb weight advantage at the WEIGH IN. It was a super flyweight weighing in against a Minimumweight. That is being THREE weight divisions higher.

I saw Rojas against Jamie Conlan in Belfast on a Frampton undercard and he was useless.

I can't see how it is possible to have a bigger mismatch.

Joe Calzaghe vs. Jess Lacy

A lot of Joe C's fights maybe Tocker Pudwill being the worst?
Tocker Pudwill was a last minute stand in for Thomas Tate, though so it's pretty much the best they could do to keep Joe in the ring.

For me one of the biggest and most bizarre mismatches in Calzaghe's career was Evans Ashira. I still don't have a clue how it was sanctioned given Ashira:

Had never had a single fight at super middleweight.
Had lost one of his two previous fights, both at 160, being stopped in the second.
Was in reality a career light middle who would go on to fight at 154 - his final fight being a loss for something called the UBO Inter Continental Super Welterweight title.

It was his only ever fight at super middle against a guy who'd been world champion for not short of a decade at the time.

It's odd isn't it.

The fact this forum is so old means you can actually go back and read the comments from the time when fights like these were announced. I was just reading the thread from when rumours started about Calzaghe Ashira:
This is a very poor matchup, an all too familiar story.
That's an appalling match. It can't be true.
Its in the same bracket as McIntyre, Pudwill, that Mger fella, Jiminez etc etc.
While I wasn't expecting a unification fight next month before the 'agreed' fight with Lacy, this is a poo match then again what do I really expect with Calzaghe?
Oh dear. I've just looked and Ashira has somehow - despite never having ONE meaningful contest at super-middle has somehow made it to number 10 in the WBO rankings at 168. One above Carl Froch. Sometimes this sport makes me sick to my stomach.

Flanagan is the fighter active today who most reminds me of the Calzaghe/Hatton WBO/WBU reigns. There seems to be no desire to see him seriously tested or pushed even when supposed negotiations have been undertaken with quality fighters.

I hope his career doesn't stay like this for years to come.

Yes, I've never rated Cleverly but the thing Cleverly did have was confidence and it was shattered after this fight mentally broken.

One can go back to the Larry Holmes fight with Tex Cobb in which Howard Cosell announcing the fight in 1982 stated that the gross mismatch would be his last time announcing a boxing match. Holmes hit the defenseless Cobb at will and battered the poor guy all 15 rounds. Think of it 45 minutes of legal assault and battery to Tex Cobb by Larry Holmes.

Tex Cobb still considers this his greatest contribution to boxing

That fight was probably the most one sided beating i've seen over the full 15 rounds,it was more difficult for Holmes to miss Cobb's head than hit it.

If there is one man I have followed closely in boxing it is Chuck.

Firstly it wasn’t a mismatch. Bruno just got lucky.

Secondly, it was on French soil.
This is the most insane post I have ever read.

There’s mismatches every week most of these are at a higher level so not really the same.. Just go to any small hall show... Worst 2 I’ve ever seen were in Belfast was a girl fight can’t remember the boxer but her opponent weighed in fully clothed and jeans on mobile phone in the back pocket and was still 7 lb or so under the weight needless to say that showed in the fight and was brutal to watch., The best one has to be Paul Hyland jnr v Karally Gallovich wow is all I’m going to say he had an unbeaten record and was the worst pro that I have ever seen.. Funnily enough Stephen Smith fought him recently terrible
