Massive upsets that almost happened
Re: Massive upsets that almost happened
Anthony Logan was on the verge of stopping Nigel Benn before getting sparked out, it's funny because today that fight would have been stopped long before Benn unleashed that punch.

Ali vs Cooper?
Re: Massive upsets that almost happened
Ah, good question. I don’t remember, you would have thought Benn. Eubank was unproven at the time. Remember they signed the contract on TV, Eubank turned his back on Benn the whole time. This Logan fight happened before Eubank too.

I suppose benn was more proven. Eubank hadnt shown his chin yet, which may be the best in British boxing history.Noxy wrote: ↑15 Jan 2018, 19:48Ah, good question. I'd imagine Benn was the favourite with wins over higher profile opponents like Dewitt and Barkley.

Juan Manual Marquez vs Katsidis is another one that comes to kind.
I've been thinking of a fighter who could beat Lomachenko technically and at 126 I think JMM might have been able to do it. He was avoided by Naz Hamed for years. The Katsidis fight was past his prime I think. JMM was no joke. He might have kept Lomachenko under control with his counter punching.

Paul Ingle took Jones to school. And he'd flown home to Scarborough because he couldn't handle being in Big Bear. Flew back to New York for the fight. Ran everyday on Scarborough beach to lose weight. In a sweat suit.
Re: Massive upsets that almost happened
If I remember rightly - although Sky had Ingle ahead, the judges had Jones ahead at the time of the stoppage. It was a close fight, but Ingle was winning for me.mickey1975 wrote: ↑16 Jan 2018, 05:10 Paul Ingle took Jones to school. Hagler-Duran. Scores were 146-145, 144-143 and 144-142.
Re: Massive upsets that almost happened
I really never saw how Maidana vs Floyd 1 was considered controvesial. Collazo vs Hatton and Sturm vs DLH IMO both upsets DID happen.

Paul didn't like travelling at all. I thought he out boxed Jones, on the big stage.stujones wrote: ↑16 Jan 2018, 05:40If I remember rightly - although Sky had Ingle ahead, the judges had Jones ahead at the time of the stoppage. Talking of Ingle, I recall him nearly tripping up with Neil Swain in his very early days.
I always remember Ingle giving Hamed all sorts of problems, especially late on. That was a brave performance.

Billy Conn being ahead after 12 rounds against Joe Louis before getting brave in round 13 and getting knocked out.

Good choice. Anyone else think it was an 'iffy' stoppage by Mike Jacobs?paddy chavez wrote: ↑16 Jan 2018, 08:06 Bruno Vs Floyd jumbo Cummings ..

Re: Massive upsets that almost happened
Someone mentioned Santos overmatching Sinclair but for a few seconds it looked like there may be an upset on the cards.
Same when noted non-puncher Jones dropped Freitas.
