Looking forward to this one. If Lara still got it, it should look like his Canelo fight where Hurd will land close to nothing.

FFS, Hurd is enormous. How this man makes 154 lbs. is a mystery to all of science. He looked like a damn LHW in the ring.
I would say that he is a CW, simply I can not understand the way he makes 154.
Although I am not very fond of Lara, I will root for him. I don't like weight issues (it might be legal, but it is not fair, and I am convinced it is harmful for boxer's health), and I am fond of Cuban boxing, music and women.
Last, but not least - all Cuban top level fighters have been losing recently (Rigo, Barrera, Dorticos, Ortiz, Barthelemy) and boxing is much more interesting with Cubans
.......T. Stevenson has been the best boxer I have ever seen

Espinoza Explains Making Lara-Hurd Over Lara-Charlo, Hurd-Charlo
“I think it was really the style matchup,” Espinoza, Showtime’s president of sports and event programming, said Thursday during a conference call.
“When we sat down and looked at them, they’re three exciting fighters, three great champions. But the matchup that was really intriguing because of the styles was Lara versus Hurd."
“Erislandy has never shied away from any challenge. Jarrett was very vocal about wanting to unify. And the culmination of their styles, where they are in their careers, it seemed like an intriguing matchup.”

That fight was just a test case for fan perceptions. That picture there shows more than 1% of the total punches Canelo landed on Lara, and is likely all the offense he managed in whatever round it's from. It was a close fight. Lara's a slick, slick mofo.

Sergio Mora vs. Alfredo Angulo on Lara-Hurd Undercard
In what is the true definition of a crossroads battle, former WBC junior middleweight champion Sergio Mora, 37, will collide in the ring with Alfredo Angulo, 35, in an eight round fight on April 7 at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.
The contest, which is going to pit ex-sparring partners against each other, will take place at the super middleweight limit of 168-pounds - as part of the non-televised portion of Showtime's televised card.

The only reason it was a close fight is that Lara didn't take any risk landing mainly jabs. Canelo landed very few punches, and most of them including body shots were fully or partially blocked. Canelo looked like a clueless puppy following a snake along the ring and unsuccessfully trying to byte it.

I'm sure it wasn't the fact that Canelo kept Lara honest. It's not like he wasn't fighting a good counterpuncher or anything.
And no, the fight was razor close. Saying Canelo looked like a clueless puppy is just idiotic.

For the record, according to Punchstat, Canelo landed 98 punches, 88 of them power punches.
Lara was credited with landing 107 punches, of which only 52 were power shots.
As for Lara vs Hurd, I expect the Cuban to slip most of Hurd's bombs and easily land plenty of potshots.
Lara should get the decision.

Not sure why Lara is so celebrated after the Canelo fight. He ran, complete non engagement for 2 mins 30 of each round if not more. I hope Hurd can pressure him and get to him like Paul Williams did except hurt him with those massive bombs. Pressure, power and will/fighting spirit vs sharp hurtful counters, movement, bike peddling, negativity, waiting, and more movement.

wasnt a close fight at all, you must be an awful judge the judges were rightfully suspended and rightfully named robbery of the year by many
paul was ineffective pitter patter nonsense

I take that back about it being close. He still got to him, I remember that much. More so than other opponents of recent memory. Not going to rewatch it though. Don’t have the time you have jamamb.

I’m going to agree that Williams got to him but lost. Got to him more so than other opponents with his pressuring style maybe other than Canelo. This is why I made the Hurd reference. Hopefully you’re able to digest that.

got to him as in pitty pattered a lot on his gloves, well okay
but got to him in terms of any actual good clean punching, no, which is why it was an awful robbery

It’s an achievement to land on Lara. If Hurd can use his feet and pressure Lara like Williams did it will be in a tough fight. Seems Hurd can take a punch also which will be important.

hurd basically should not at all be thinking in his head of landing a really good punch, he just needs to keep his hands moving and also mix up the shots to body and head
also, he needs to start a lot faster then he did vs trout, he gave up way too many early rounds
