Don't get why Fury didn't announce a fight, they knew the date was coming so surely they could have found someone
They needed an opponent that was at least knocking on the door of the top five. No point racing to get someone like Sexton signed up when he'll lose the belt regardless.
I'm surprised they didn't aim for Charr. Relatively low-risk and surely he'd have been acceptable since he is a title holder, even if it's a paper one.

Fairly certain he wouldn't to be fair; he's not ranked in the Ring top ten as far as I'm aware.

I wonder if this reveals there is far more hurdles to the Fury comeback than is being suggested.

I think Edddie hinted he has legal troubles with Meaty Mick.

It's reasonable, but I think they should change the rule, so that the old champion isn't stripped until a new champion is crowned.

I don't see the benefit of having a vacant title.

What's the benefit in having a Champion that won't fight?

It's better than having no one.

With the title being vacant, it creates a clear path to filling the vacancy. Joshua vs Wilder is The Championship match to make now.

Maybe Fury can come back and re-establish himself as a credible contender again, and get back in the mix. I won't be holding my breath though.

There would be a clear path anyway.

The "lineal" and Ring titles didn't seem to mean much to anyone before Fury was stripped of his other belts.

Are there lineal champs in other divisions?

The winner of GGG vs Canelo 2 will be the Lineal Middleweight Champion I'd imagine.

But no title lineages really don't ever stay going too long these days. The Flyweight title lineage that had lasted a LONG while was broken a few years back when Roman Gonzalez moved up to 115.

Cheers Gilgamesh, didn't realise Gonzalez had been considered lineal champ.

How did Wlad become lineal champ? I guess Lennox was considered to hold it, so what happened when he retired?

Wladimir won the IBF Championship from Chris Byrd in 2006. He unified with the WBO title against Sultan Ibragimov in 2008 in a pretty dreadful fight, and then fought the highly rated Ruslan Chagaev in 2009. Chagaev was either #2 or #3 right behind Wlad at the time I believe so this bout crowned what was considered the Lineal Champion from there.

Wlad's brother Vitali still held the WBC Title during a lot of this time, but Wladimir had beaten all the other titleholders.

Can't blame the ring for stripping him to be fair. Hopefully he wins all the belts back though.

Horse is a worshiper at the alter of Furyness. ;-)
I'm a Fury fan also, but I'm not going to express false outrage on behalf on someone else.

Adonis Stevenson is Lineal champion. He was stripped of his Ring title after failing to defend against a top 5 in 2 years..

I really must remember not to look at the forum without signing in, it’s much better when horse posts are hidden by the ignore function.

There was a time, early 2000s I think, when The Ring title was really prominent but until this recent discussion regarding Tyson Fury and his status as their champion I don’t recall when anyone really mentioned it last.
Was Bernard Hopkins Ring champion but no other bodies champion when he boxed Calzaghe?

The Ring lost all relevance IMO when it became a mouthpiece for Golden Boy.

If it doesn't go vacant after a fair period, a champion might retire at 40 and retain it until 50 if no-one's able to unify. Klitschko would've been stripped by now had he retired before Fury, whereas he'd still have it if the current lot were required to unify. How old would Lennox have been?

A title can't mean much if it's been latent for years.
