Why has this happened ?
Is this a deliberate cynical ploy ? or cock-up ?
What does this do to Butler's chances ?

Does he put on a lot of weight between fights? I notice he’s fought quite often over the bantamweight limit when there hasn’t been any belt on the line...

3.3ils is an enormous amount to be over for a bantam. He's not far off the limit for the division above.
That statement tells us nothing.

Dissapointing from Butler, I automatically root against guys who fail to make weight these days, its far too common, these guys have got the best of training methods, sports scientists, dieticians, strength and conditioning experts, full training camps and all the rest, yet every week we see guys in world title fights coming in way over
War Rodriguez

No really sure how a judge can give 2 rounds to give to Butler he was absolutely schooled and had next to no success whatsoever over 12 rounds, I'll give him credit for lasting 12 especially after being put down twice in the 1st, he left himself wide open for the left hook for the fist KD, he got overconfident after a decent enough first minute, it was a peach of a shot from Rodriguez, the 2nd KD looked more of a stumble, either way I was surprised at how bamboozled Butler looked, it was the Tete fight all over
I reckon Rodriguez could've KO'd Butler tonight if he stepped it up but he was having fun, he won every second and dealt with any Butler rush by simply jumping straight back, I really like the look of him he looks like he has it all, he's quick and very clever and doesn't rush his work, he countered Butler beautifully on the backfoot then started to push Butler back and landing with sharp accurate combinations, he has a quick jab and great punch variety, he looks a real talent and makes it seem effortless, looking forward to seeing him again

How bad did Butler look in the fight? I read a couple of reports and it seems that he took a beating, if that’s the case his corner should have pulled him out because he couldn’t win the title and it’s unnecessary punishment...

It wasn’t a beating as such, it was like the Tete fight where Butler just wasn’t in it at all. He didn’t win a single round on my card.

he was way out of his depth, kept coming forward with some upper body movement and bending of the knees, and threw the occasional flurry, but hardly landed a punch of note.
as for a stoppage, i thought butler looked right there for rodriguez pretty much all fight but rodriguez showed zero killer instinct. if hed stepped on the agression even just a bit id think butler maybe should been pulled out, but as it were, even way down with a bloody face, butler wasnt actually taking a massive beating because rodriugez wasnt throwing the type of heat and volume for now
whenever rodriguez came forward and threw some power on butler , butler looked shaky, yet then rodriguez would go back to 2:30 of jabbing and throwing 2-1s

Seems you were bang on the money regarding Butler mate, even though Tete and Rodriguez are well schooled, Butler's bemused tactics exposed him at the top level

Well that’s fair enough then, it would have been terrible had his corner kept him in there taking unnecessary punishment as the report suggested...

Butler mentioned 4 weeks notice as a sort of excuse, but this fight has been rumoured for a good couple of months so he must have known it had every chance of happening. Was it not originally rumoured for the Khan bill 2 weeks ago? He had plenty of notice so to miss weight by 3+ lbs is poor.
Tonight was similar to the Tete fight. In against someone who knew how to use their height and reach advantages and he didn't seem to have an answer. Couldn't get past Rodriguez' jab. Seen a lot of tweets calling Rodriguez a really special talent. Anyone else not convinced yet? As someone else mentioned he showed no killer instinct. He was levels above Butler but at the same time did the bare minimum, wanted to see more from him. Maybe it'll take a bigger test for us to see him go through the gears.
As for Butler, shouldn't be thinking about your Burnetts and McDonnell's. Maybe Haskins in a bit of a cross roads fight? Or that French kid that beat Farrag for the European.

ya rodriguez didnt really seem special to me at all, certainly a good fighter but didnt really standout as being much better then your typical decent belt holder. aside from the total lack of killer instinct he seemed to have average speed at best and was rather upright. i guess it didnt really matter vs butler but vs better opponents id like to see if those things become more costly. and if someone really gave him a fight would he step up his offense?

I liked the look of him but he may a Rey Vargas type of boxer, Rodriguez does look like he has another gear though
