I think the reality probably is that Sr knows his son isnt that good. He's been around the sport long enough shit from shinola. This is damage limitation to recycle juniours career. In effect he is a tough, strong and game British title level fighter who will come up short against every world class fighter. His name value will get him other big paydays.

Naz would be very controversial as a ringside pundit, he's not a party man, but he's a breath of fresh air. Sadly he's unlikely to do many, unless he's bored as he doesn't need the money.

I cannot remember the exact story but I am sure part of it was Eubank being accused of stealing the whole jumping the top rope thing from Naz (he saw the kid Naz do it somewhere) and a later story involving an airport, a slap, a punch, a bloodied lip on Eubank and world title belts being slung across the departure lounge.
I cant remember the exact details - wasn't it the other way round?

I am sure Senior has posted up a video of one of his early fights where he jumps over the ropes and standing outside the ring is a young (about 15) Naz smiling his head off - and Eubank reckons that Naz nicked his idea.

I also vaguely recall some kind of confrontation as well.
Eubank was doing a Ringside special a couple of years ago with Smith and Nelson fawning over him and they played the footage of a young Naz in the crowd looking on awe struck as Eubank jumped over the ropes in some old fight. Eubank seemed overkeen to take credit for having done it before Naz.

The Sheffield lot say Eubank started doing it after spending time at Wincobank sparring.

Naz somersaulted the top rope, so it’s not really the same as Eubank.

I read in Calzaghes book that Naz was giving it the biggun and Carl Thompson threatened to smash him to bits.

Aye, I remember that. It was an entertaining read.

I seem to remember Benn also having a run in with Naz, i think it was when Benn was training out in Tenerife and Naz rocked up to the gym with a stereo blasting out whatever sh1t he was into and Benn went beserk and told him to get the feck out the gym, which he duly did.

During Eubank's loss to Calzaghe, I clearly recall Chris shouting 'shut up Naseem' about halfway through a round. Hamed had fought Jose Badillo in the chief support and had hot-footed to ringside purely to try and get under Eubank's skin, which he clearly succeeded in doing. There was certainly very little love lost between them.

I've not watched to post fight punditary until now - that was a bit car crash and I think he knew by the end.

Pugatch - One last thing to say Naseem?
Naz - Yes, I love you Alisha.

Bless him, but I just hope he is okay - he said some really good things but was so condraticory. He started by suggest Eubank could come back stronger, then he said no he just needs to realise he is not that good, then it was he should retire... then he slagged off George Groves.

Hamed was pro Eubank before the fight - so I hardly think he scathing comments were linked to any 20 year old grudge. He tipped Eubank strongly..

I was the one who raised the whole 20 year grudge thing but did not say it was a grudge or that it had anything to do with his comments, just that they have history. Was relaying it for people who may not know as it is a nice little story

x2. He was entertaining and ultimately that's what its all about. I was tired, and ready for bed but I wasn't switching off the TV until it went off air as Naz was that entertaining. Come back soon Naz :TU:

Naz was irrational and mildly embarassing. Entertaining if it was interview but not on main broadcast.

I remember reading an old boxing monthly where they noted naz was laughing at the abilities of james oylebola and scott welch from ringside. Saying it was disrespectful but understandable given his own ability. Do you think it was a bit similar on Saturday when he said both were rubbish

i think your right about probably he might be comparing them to his own elite level. but i think a real good analyst even if they were f@cking amazing at what they did should realize that even if ppl arent as good as they were can still be very good. dont think anyones really claiming groves to be a naz level fighter but hes no doubt good and world class for his division right now.

groves has been very competitive vs some very good fighters and beaten everyone he faced who wasnt elite for 168. hes not one to be slagged off.

i did think what naz said about eubank not really probably going to do much more or get much better is true though. i think his mentality is stuck in his ways and too concerned with flash and glitz and not the basics.

Ultimately I felt it was disrespectful to both...fair enough call Eubank overhyped...but he gave it his all...as did groves...neither were rubbish

yes he was harsh, i agree, although honestly with all the ass kissing ive seen from pundits and commentators ill for now take naz type of stuff over what im used to, which is stuff like fawning over beating some cherry picked guy with a totally inflated record, hearing over and over about how special guys like paul butler supposedly are

NAZ AND EU IN AIRPORT FIGHT

Boxing stars Chris Eubank and Prince Naseem Hamed were involved in an amazing airport punch-up last night.

Hundreds of stunned passengers watched as the ring heroes laid into each other.

Promoter allegedly had to step in to keep the fighters apart.

Naseem's championship belts were hurled across the floor of Heathrow's Terminal Three in the bust-up. Eubank got a bloodied lip.

Naseem was waiting to check in for a flight to the United States when the scuffle started

His publicist Frankie Burstin said last night: "Naz wasn't looking for trouble. Eubank threatened to slap him and Naz laughed in his faze - which angered Chris further.

"He tried to slap Naz but he was too quick. Naz ducked and retaliated which is his instinct."

Five foot ten Eubank last night denied his littler opponent hit him.

He said: "Naz was taunting and goading me and he got my goat. I grabbed the belts and threw them to the floor. Next thing he's swung at me. He missed. It was all very ungentlemanly."

But Frankie said: "He did make contact. Unfortunately when someone threatens Naz he rises to it."

The rumpus began when Eubank turned up at the airport to speak to Warren who was with Naseem.

Middleweight Eubank was swamped by autograph hunters.

World featherweight champion Naseem taunted Eubank over the fact that he currently holds no titles. Eye witness Joe Bedminster, who works at Heathrow said: "He called over to Eubank `You haven't got any of these,' waving his belts.

"Eubank was just saying `shut up' but then he grabbed the belts off Naz and threw them across the floor.

"They went flying and smashed into a pillar. Naz went for Chris and threw a punch at him."

Police were called to the airport but there were no arrests.

I find Naz a bore. He struggles to articulate his thoughts coherently and repeats his vacuous observations. Sure, he speaks his mind, which is all and well and good - but there's not actually much in there.

x 2 - I was interested / impressed when he started to break down why he was not impressed with Groves - but then it just sort of stopped. He reminds me of some of these instinctive strikers who, whilst great players, cannot manage - because it is practically impossible to explain what they did. Tony Cottee springs to mind, he openly said he couldn't explain what he did to get into the right position - it was just there.

When Naz was boxing his articulation of how he would win was usually something like "boom there it is". ... Great!
