He will need a good chin though because you will get hit with that style. He carries power himself. Coming forward like that hes essentially daring opponents to throw punches at him.
Impressed. I like his head and body movement like you say decent slick moves, excellent hand position getting his hands back up, doesn't rush his punches or snatch at them so he gets really solid leverage. I liked his jab to the body and chest, really knocked Indongo back on his heels, good to the body especially the right hand.

Indongo seemed made for him and a boxer/counterpuncher with power, a (Mikey) Garcia type, would be interesting against Prograis. But I'd say Prograis has established himself as a very interesting player at world level.

Style wise he reminded me a little bit of a much more technical and measured, slightly less explosive version of Gervonta Davis, if you know what I mean? That same southpaw hunter-killer style but relying on good fundamentals instead of pure athleticism to set his power game up (though Prograis seems a pretty good athlete himself)

Good body puncher. He went to the body well against Joel Diaz Jr as well. Him vs Taylor would be great when Taylor steps up to world level. Two really good body punchers.

Yeah the southpaw styles would open up the hook for both of them. Fascinating prospect in a year or two.

him 'starting well' was simply prograis doing nothing for the first 2 minutes. as soon as prograis started punching it was pretty much done
I take it you never seen any of the shots Indongo landed? Prograis may well have been just warming into it but he was being hit, Crawford for instance usually likes to have a wee look early doors but he doesn't get hit, Indongo had no problem landing in the short time it lasted

Indongo's legs were all over the place but his punching was pretty good in all fairness

Good post and great analysis :TU:

And just the other day I thought you are pretty clueless. I am happy to be proven wrong

I thought Ian John Lewis should have stopped after the second knockdown. The third was totally unnecessary.

That swingin' left hook. It's like as if Indongo was thrown to the ground..

I think the only conclusion we can draw from that fight is that Indongo was massively overrated in the uk at least based on easily outpointing a shot ricky burns. He looked nowhere near world level, semi stiff jabs from prograis had him stumbling backwards ffs.

Prograis looks a work in progress to me. :yay:

Josh Taylor v him would be an interesting fight.

Good points, hes definitely a more technical southpaw. In the fights ive seen, including this one, you can see prograis is really making use of the southpaw advantage. He works his way into those awkward angles and then throws shots with good leverage. He throws some shoe shine jabs/punches sometimes to get himself in position or draw a lead and then hes moved or slipped into a nice position and punching from that angle with good leverage. I like the way he jabs a lot too.

Garcia is a tough fight for anyone but prograis wont be easy, bringing that southpaw pressure. I actually think other southpaws like flanagan and taylor might give prograis problems but im just speculating. He might be fine.. He lost to southpaw spence twice in the amateurs but they were close fights (according to prograis). I think prograis would outclass Broner.

Yeah, I didn't think about Spence when thinking aggressive southpaws for some reason, he's a bit stiffer through the shoulders and more straight-up than Prograis maybe.

There's a cliche that southpaw vs southpaw is bound to be a bad fight but I don't find it to be true, especially not if one or both fighters are a bit aggressive.

Taylor, by the way, I would back to dispose of Indongo with fairly similar aplomb to Prograis. I think Taylor's excellent offensive footwork would make the ring tiny for Indongo and we've seen Indongo vulnerable to the kind of short compact shots that Taylor excels at.

I'd say Taylor is at least a year behind Prograis in his development, if they do fight the styles make an instant classic IMO (as long as Taylor jumps the levels as I expect him to). I'd say Taylor would be box-fighting rather than trying to brawl with him, Taylor is a really sharp hitter but Prograis looks genuinely heavy-handed. My rule of thumb southpaw be southpaw is back the guy with the best right hand, hook especially, difficult to say between these two although my one reservation with Taylor so far is he hasn't used the jab as much as maybe I would like, for a fighter with his height and skill and footwork it seems underused.

Good point about the angles by the way, it's one way Prograis and Taylor are similar in style- concise, spiteful box-fighters who use te southpaw angles well.

Fair play to taansend by the way, he called it on Prograis about 18 months ago, Prograis always did pass the eye test.
