I got 4-5 casuals at my place for the AJ fight. They all think Parker is going to waste him
But they chipped in for the PPV, brought beers an one brought some wild venison for the barby, so right now, I love casuals.

ive heard the term casual for years,

its been used for years to refer to ppl who really only come for the biggest few fights and dont follow the sport at all beyond that, and hence often have very limited knowledge and are often more likely to accept whatever the hype line is because they dont have the knowledge base to question it

being a casual itself isnt really so bad, but often times these casuals will make claims that go beyond there knowledge level, but since they dont see the bigger picture there unaware of whats so wrong about it

If there wasn't "casuals" AJ would only sell 10,000 tickets, nothing wrong with it, I like football but I'd defiantly be classed as a casual fan if it. Every now and then a fighter comes along who really transcends the sport and joe public love them, I can remember my aunties and uncles going nuts for Bruno but they wouldn't watch any other fights ever.

Back in my flatsharing days I used to be someone that would wince when one of my jovial flatmates offered to stay in and watch the fights with me. Often after a few drinks they'd get told in no uncertain terms to stop talking absolute shite about what they were watching. I suppose that was me having very little tolerance for folks that knew very little about something and yet had so much to say about it.

Then at some point something clicked and I stopped caring. Life is too short. As long as nobody stood in front of the TV then nothing bothered me.

Casuals might be annoying but they are good for the sport. Fighters like Bruno, Benn, Eubank, Tyson, Hatton, Froch and Joshua wouldn't have sold out football stadiums without them.

Having experienced a Joshua card live for the first (and probably only) time and up with the "casuals" - I can say they were as annoying as feck. Okay, I'm not expecting everyone to have encyclopedia knowledge of boxing - but when people were saying that Carlos Molina fought Anthony Joshua and this Kelly fella cannot be that good because Joshua stopped Molina it is pretty bad.

People were saying, in all seriousness, that Joshua is champion of the world cos Mayweather has retired - as if being champion of the world means exactly that - there is one world champion in the whole of boxing. When Ryan Burnett fought they thought it was a typo in the programme and that it must be an eliminator for Joshua.

Yeah the card wasn't exciting, but the amount of - Oh this is shit lets get a pint, lets go for a fag, I was hearing, even for Price vs Povetkin. Loads thought Bruno was Dillan White also.

I'll certainly never get the cheap seats again, not because of the view but because of the casuals - and quite possibly more than any sport, the casuals like to think they know everything about boxing.

Not only did he say it was a massive upset that a midget like Povetkin could KO a fearsome giant like Pricey, but he also insisted on referring to Joshua as Yoshuway

I so rarely engage with premier league football these days since we were relegated. I might watch w big European game if it’s on, follow the FA Cup and still listen to the world football phone in. That’s the extent of my football these days.

Not me, I’m including myself in the ‘casual’ bracket here as well. But my dad & brother are examples of proper hardcore football fans, they can pretty much name every single player in the 92 club squads every year, and usually tell you quite a bit about each player. They can do the same for quite a few non-League teams too. They’re basically football anoraks, but I suppose that’s how casual boxing fans would think of us on here when we talk about Thai flyweights etc.

That’s one of the worst aspects of talking boxing with people who don’t really follow it. How could you even confuse retired former world champion and national treasure Frank Bruno with current contender Dillian Whyte? That doesn’t even make sense to me.

I find a lot of people in pubs who proclaim Mike Tyson to be the best ever have a very limited knowledge too, very vocal and loud though.

That really is in depth knowledge. I don’t think I could name every premier league manager these days. But I don’t even watch MOTD as the league doesn’t hold my interest without us in it.

Yeah same here. I tend to have a good knowledge of the teams within whatever league we’re in at the time as I go out of my way to find out, but other than that I don’t really pay too much attention. I still record MOTD every week and usually spin through it, but sometimes I can’t even be bothered to do that.

A true sign of a casual is they quite often pronounce boxers names wrong,i've heard Merryweather,Frock and Wetherspoon mentioned and usually in the wrong weight class too
