If the ref let them fight on inside how would the fight have changed?

To be fair and unbiased ( since I’m a Parker fan )

My guess is that both fighters would have expended much much more energy and the mid to later rounds both fighters would have been gassed which slows movement and opens up more opportunities for landing big punches.

It would have probably been a back and forth slug fest and ended in stoppage when one fighter landed a big shot on a tired opponent .

Who would have won we will never know because the bad ref changed the dynamics of the entire fight and made it a boring affair.

The ref got slung out of the sport for this. The Colombian got a rematch in the States but arrived the day before the fight and gave himself no chance, although he did have Coggi down again.

Anyone remember the ref who warned robin reid for punching sven ottke? Absolutley terrible, joe cortez mayweather vs hatton was bad other than that fight i rated cortez.

The ref on saturday was terrible in some of the clinch breaks but in others l,if there is no one throwing shots break them up. As soon as smith started complaining i just ignored the little weasle cause i just think he over reacts

In reply to Kevin Barry's accusation that the ref spoke no English, Fastcar said that he gave instructions in perfect English, and old Jeff Powell's backed him up on that basis.

But of course he gave instructions in English — that's his job! I could probably learn the same script in Italian in a couple of days.

Pugni cessare! Pugni cessare!

I'd have to watch it again but I thought the ref hindered both fighters equally. He might have been breaking it ups to help Joshua but to be honest Femi's best chances of getting a KO looked to be from the inside and the ref ruined that. From one viewing I thought he screwed them both. Also when Femi's tape came lose he was doing it up himself rather than sending him to the corner to have it done properly. That didn't scream favouring the house fighter to me. I'll watch it again over the next couple of days and maybe I'll change my mind but yeah, he was shite anyway.

I've seen much worse reffing though. I mean, come on guys. We've seen Kovalev-Ward 2, Reid-Ottke. I mean, look at Calzaghe slapping Manfredo to a stoppage, or Froch-Groves 1, or fat Terry carrying Cleverley to the corner against Kovalev: even a few weekends ago Wilder was given unnecessary time to recover against Ortiz. It was crap but he stopped both guys working: he didn't take the advantages away from just one fighter.

That's how I saw it on the night anyway.

Yeah the ref was crap but to assume that he was favouring Joshua is a bit strange when he looked like he was getting the better of some of the exchanges that the ref broke up.

Parker's team demanded a neutral ref (understandably), they probably regret it now though.
For all their flaws, British refs do tend to allow inside fighting.

The stick this referee is getting is absolutely bizarre.

He broke the in-fighting on 2 occasions i felt was too early.... no big deal over 12 rounds.

Some.of you people need to go watch how Kenny Bayless refereed Floyd Mayweather fights - he would break the action 7 or 8 times EVERY ROUND because, well.... i guess because Floyd doesn't lose from the outside huh.

The totally inappropriately named Marlon B. Wright's performance in the Bute v Andrade fight a number of years ago was an absolute shocker. Bute was completely done and a gust of air away from being knocked out when Wright decided to give him a fuckin 18 count or whatever it was! Dreadful performance and I'm sure he's refereed Bute a few times since that which I'm surprised they got away with!

I actually said at the moment it got messy on the ropes "heaven forbid a fight breaks out" - but tbf i think he commited to breaking them just before it actually began to work itself out.

The Bute-Andrade one is a good example, it lisses me off no end that these refs are never held to account.

For me the 2 worst examples of individual ref errors are:

Ian john lewis stopping Enzo Mac vs O Mckenzie (IJL's "oh shiit" face when he realised Enzo wasnt hurt in the slightest is pure comedy)..... funnily enough the earliest stoppage in the history of boxing commited by the guy who let Shannon take a brutal, relentless 12 round beating off VK.

Joe Cortez botching the Floyd-Ortiz fight.... counting out Victor Ortiz despite not even witnessing the combo the floored him. For all he knew Floyd could have put those steel knuckles on again like he did for the Big Show.

Tony Weeks waving off the Ward-Kov 3-nut-shot combo deserves honourable mention too.

Yeah I remember watching it awhile ago on one of those Showtime Don King cards.

Apparently the ref did do another title fight 3 years later. http://boxrec.com/en/referee/402907

In all my years of watching boxing I have never seen a more corrupt ref job or more disgusting robbery.

Yeah that one definitely takes the cake

Not nearly as egregious as it didn't cost the man that was supposed to win not to, but Shawn Clark's recent performance in the Jesse Hart vs Demond Nicholson fight was absolutely abysmal.

In all my years of watching Boxing I've never seen a referee do what Clark did here. In the Jesse Hart vs Demond Nicholson fight. He rules a knockdown. Counted 1 thru 6...stopped the count to talk to Nicholson, then count 7 and 8...then stopped the count and just said "Get up, Get up" twice to Nicholson.

Absolutely unacceptable. It should've been 9, 10...YOU'RE OUT

There's no discussion to be had with a downed fighter. Either he gets up or he doesn't. Whether or not it looks like he COULD continue is irrelevant. This was flat out unacceptable, and I hope Clark was reprimanded intensely for his performance here. If he'd do this again, he has no business ever refereeing another bout...hell the fact that he'd need to be explained this in the first place means he probably should've never become a referee.

I had never seen that Gainer vs Norwood fight before. That was just bizarre.

When the referee started counting after the flagrant low blows I was like "What the f*ck?"...and then when he started going "11, 12, 13, 14"...I was like "What the f*ck" again

I was at Hartlepool earlier this year for this bout. Ward got tagged right on the bell. Watch how the referee reacts. Is it a knockdown? If it is he should be counting. If it isn't then what on Earth is he telling Ward to do. He tells him to go to Medina's corner. Then changes his mind. When Martin gets decked in round two he points Medina to Wards corner not to a neutral one. The whole thing was utterly confusing. I thought at the time how poor the ref was. This is the same guy handling Joshua v Parker.

I thought the first round knockdown was legit and he should have counted over Ward.

BTW - ringside analysis is given by Lewis Ritson. Gord bless him! Martin Ward is quality, this just wasn't his night.

Just wanted to bring this up.

Parker isn’t shorter than Ruiz, but he was clearly trying to fight on the inside.

Had the ref let Parker on the inside to rough AJ up, could he have stopped him?
