The thing is I don't want to see Spike do a Gabe Rosado. This fight will stop his career dead in its tracks, its a train wreck of a fight. O'Sullivan doesn't need this kind of punishment.

With just a little more finesse Spike could yet be a real contender.

I don't like to see GGG fighting BJS and CEJ leftover. Andrade, Derev or maybe Murata would've been some good choices.

This is starting to get stupid. I know boxing can be a cut throat business, but you don't throw in an unbeaten 21 year old kid against Golovkin just because Jacobs and Canelo were able to survive 12 rounds.

I guess rumours of GGG's decline must be on the up. The whole thing's becoming a farce just to save May 5th from turning into a fatal bleed for the various interested parties. The lawyers must be having a field day.

Oh well, as long as it's Canelo or Billy Jo next!

Imo, Sullivan is an average boxer, who thinks he is good, but the fact is that he is sloppy aggressive with poor defense and is the perfect opponent for GGG to look great against. He has nothing to bother GGG as far as power or his unorthodox tactics. Piss poor match up but I think that is what team GGG wants. Doubt if it will go past 6 or 7 rounds. GGG will look invincible once again after this fight.

Finally, an intelligent person enters the conversation here. Some of these chaps in this forum couldn't analyze talent to save their lives. ALL that they do is look at resume's and formulate a boxer's worth. "Oh Spike got beat up by BJS over 5 years ago so he must stink."

I loved what Spike showed in that Douglas fight. Great beard with power and way more athletic than people give him credit for. If I were managing him, i'd stay away from GGG fight right now unless they really feel it's the best money fight he'll be able to procure.

The bottom line is GGG's age at this point. We've all seen a gradual decline in GGG's subsequent fights and I feel from here on out, every fight GGG's in will be tougher than we all expect it to be. Then you trickle in a late write in opponent at this level of the game after a huge emotional letdown monetarily and historically for GGG and his team for having this fight cancelled, it's the recipe for an upset regardless if he fights an elite opponent or just an excellent pro.

Yup it's true. Indeed GGG is declining and an upset or a very tough match against a lesser name would spoil the rematch with Canelo or an unification match with BJS.

To be comfortable he could handpick a soft fight against Bundrage , Ishe Smith or Kirkland.

I think you're totally right.

Guys can always look noble and brave when they know that there's no chance they're going to be the Chosen One.

And if I'm in Golovkin's camp, I don't want to have my fighter oppose someone who has a realistic chance to pull off an upset or presents a style that can make him look bad.

I want an easy to hit, aggressive fighter with modest punching ability.

I certainly don't want no fast, tricky fighters who can move well and give my guy headaches chasing him down.

Not when the lucrative Canelo fight probably awaits 4 months down the line.

The ordinary O'Sullivan therefore is the one and only perfect foil.

Even though it hasn't been finalized, sportsbooks are already posting a price on Golovkin vs O'Sullivan.

Oddsmakers give little support to the Irishman's challenge, establishing Golovkin as a lopsided 1-50 (-5000) favorite.

As a comparison, Golovkin was about a 5-8 (-160) choice over Canelo.

the whole point of putting IF is to say even in the event that he really is fading, spikes still a softy for him. some ppl are talking spike up likes hes dangerous for an aging ggg but its simply not true, even IF ggg has faded

of course ggg predictably didnt look a monster when he finally stepped up his level, though if there looking for such awful opponents it makes me question how much confidence they have in him now, i dont really think a guy like derevychanko for example is really someone far beyond the guys ggg was beating handily a few years ago.

Derevyanchenko is a 12 fight rookie. Too green. He should be happy Golovkin isn't interested in him at this time.

And as I opined before, I don't blame Team Golovkin for looking for a soft opponent.

Not when there's, in all likelihood, a huge money matchup a few months down the line with a certain Mexican.

And there's no guarantee that any of these big names who are loudly volunteering to replace Canelo, would actually agree to the fight if it was actually offered.

I'm certain that financial considerations would come into play before any of them accepted the fight as a late sub.

Good points Senior. I agree that theories of GGGs decline do have a lot to do about a huge step up in class. But they said same about Manny when he was knocking everyone out then never had another ko while sprinkling in a few losses.

Aging is a big factor too. Golovkin's speed, relentless and reflexes aren't the same when he was 29-31 y/o.
