Munguia would probably be a solid underdog to Spike O'Sullivan.
He has no real experience at 160 nor had he fought anyone remotely resembling a contender.
He is seen as rather slow and very easy to hit. A decent but not extraordinary puncher at 154.
NSAC better think very carefully before approving this high profile mismatch.

Like they thought when allowing Floyd to fight Connor or allowing Canelo to fight Khan?

If a possible Munguia fight (or Spike for that matter) is ridiculously broadcast on PPV, will promoters still have the balls to charge that $70 price tag?
Have they ever charged less than $70?
There have been plenty of crappy cards priced at far under that.
During the rise of Chavez Jr., Arum sold his fights on PPV for around $20.
If HBO and Loeffler are crazy enough to think that fans will pony up $70 for a blatant farce of a fight, then they're in for a huge shock when the buy numbers trickle in.

Seems it's still not official.
NSAC hasn't approved it.
But Munguia might help bring in another 10,000 or so viewers to the fight since he's Mexican and it's Cinco de Mayo.
Unfortunately, even Mexican fans are pretty unfamiliar with the undersized Munguia, so HBO better throw in the towel and televise it on its normal channel.
A PPV telecast would be a disaster.
If they wanted a Mexican, Chávez Jr. would have been the right one, even if Golovkin had to agree to a 170 limit.
Golovkin can fight JCCJ at any weight, even at 200. Won't make any difference. However, for this stay busy fight, he wants to defend his MW titles to tie Bernard's record.

Connor McGregor was huge money, as the PPV sales arrested. They couldn't pass it up.
And Khan was a competent, multi division champion, moving up one weight division.
He has skills. Just too small.
Munguia is too small, inexperienced and apparently has very limited skills.

If Golovkin really wanted to "stay busy" he would have agreed to fight one of the better names proposed. Guys who would extend him rounds.
That's staying busy. Munguia is a 2 rounder. Spike maybe 3 or 4.

Khan was a WW (recent JWW) fighting at 155 which is technically MW. It was a clear health risk for him.

155 is 1 pound above 154 and 5 pounds less that 160.. how is 155 middleweight?
Fair enough it was still risky as Canelo was well known to balloon up.

Forget about Canelo, as much as I hate the SOB, I can't blame him for team GGG deciding between two gate keepers, when much better opponents are out there. If you are an elite fighter, you don't need tune ups, especially at this stage in his career.
I'm beginning to think that team GGG is much more afraid of certain style match ups than I once thought.

You can't fault Gennady Golovkin for taking on a top class opponent with five weeks notice, yes it's ideal but given the scenario that has played out you can't expect that to happen. I understand the fan's backlash against Golovkin fighting the lower names but ultimately the man that has forced Golovkin into the situation is Canelo. I think we will see GGG take on a lower class opponent and then ultimately see the Canelo fight in September, but I wait to see how it plays out.

They are looking at realistic opportunities. Starting talks with somebody like Andrade one month before the fight date almost certainly means not having a fight on that date. No top MW who hasn't been training for a fight around that date can make weight comfortably enough to face Golovkin in the ring.

The cancellation of GGG v Canelo is a big deal.
Hard to fill that spot the fight was big.
I didn't think anyone would pull out due to money.
I was wrong.
Where GGG goes short term is anyone's guess.

https://www.BS.com/nsac-approv ... -5--126902
BS.com has learned that the Nevada State Athletic Commission won’t approve Mexico’s Jamie Munguia as Gennady Golovkin’s opponent May 5 in Las Vegas.
The it says..
Tom Loeffler, Golovkin’s promoter, is expected to submit the name of at least one potential replacement for Alvarez to the NSAC by Friday. If Munguia is on that list, sources close to the NSAC have informed BS.com that he won’t be approved because the NSAC doesn’t think the talented but untested prospect is ready for such a significant step up in competition against Golovkin (37-0-1, 33 KOs).
So Tom hasn't submitted any names yet, however IF he submits Munguia's name, sources close to NSAC say it will decline..
Lou DiBella, who promotes Derevyanchenko, has petitioned the IBF to either force Golovkin to make his mandatory defense against Derevyanchenko on May 5 or strip Golokvin of his IBF 160-pound championship.

Gennady Golovkin has had nothing but bullshit in all his dealings with Canelo Alvarez. If Alvarez is found guilty then he has to pay a heavy price. GGG and his camp should settle for nothing less than maximum reparation.
Actions have consequences, even for cloistered superstars like Canelo Alvarez.

If Golovkin wants a lucrative payday, it would seem that the last thing he would want is the NSAC to go hard on Canelo.

- Canelo made Golovkin by far his biggest purse and a much bigger name in the public eye. Such muddled muckery you demonstrate, and to hear you nanogram IQs twist up in your panties about current state of drug cartel testing idiocy that you sorry lot screamed for is priceless but for fighters being fleeced. The casual public that boxing counts on for revenue flees in droves from such a dirty sport.
Here is the current 2018 VADA banned "drug" list, and what a whopper of a hot mess you sugar plums have made:
https://vada-testing.org/wp-content/upl ... t_2018.pdf
The general public couldn't pass VADA testing any more than current drug testing cartels, politicians, business leaders, athletes, and movie and recording stars could. When are Uncle Vic Conte and Missy Quack Goodman gonna release their personal BALCO test results?
Never, you say. Idiotdoltary I say.
Meanwhile, Travis TUE Tygart bunkers in an unholy circle of jerks with Al Haymon and the Vegas Commish to complete their run of cleaning out boxing.
Canelo, un hombre de su gente, walks into a Mexican cantina para filete al carbono y cervaza con pastel y café de postre. BALCO Vic bumrushes him waiving his bill with his hunchbacked tester, Igor, "Yer busted, son, a double nanograms drug cheat of clen and caffeine, so now you pay me for my designer PEDs guaranteed to pass my drug test, all for 300,000 American.”
Unless I missed it, no mention of nicotine, described as a highly potent, stimulant and psychoactive drug or ethanol, a highly addictive, life destroying, mood altering stimulant as so many besotted on this forum have demonstrated. If you bozos ate a tomato, you'd test positive for however many of the 200 tomato nanograms of nicotine is absorbed into your body. Addictive cigarettes and alcohol on football sidelines and in baseball dugouts were traditionally used as stimulants in football and baseball and maybe still are. VADA and USADA are American organizations now part of the international cartel of alphabet orgs and rogue commishes that run boxing with all the aplomb and finesse of Blinky Palmero.
And where's cannabis and Viagra and their clones?
You lovelies could show up stinking of the bar you were booted out of for a fight and pass VADA, so no wonder you wunderkinds jumped on Sugar Daddy Vic's bandwagon.
Boxing would have already been banned by now save the fact that the public and their politicians don't care if punch drunk fighters and fans bludgeon their brains out or if crooks and alchemists wreck the sport. Maybe Canelo got a few whiffs of your tough guys on his presser tour to test in nanograms.
No No Nanette, not nanograms! Honey, I Shrunk The Kiddos. Pity paddycakes that, only in boxing.
