Connor McGregor was huge money, as the PPV sales arrested. They couldn't pass it up.

And Khan was a competent, multi division champion, moving up one weight division.

He has skills. Just too small.

Munguia is too small, inexperienced and apparently has very limited skills.

If Golovkin really wanted to "stay busy" he would have agreed to fight one of the better names proposed. Guys who would extend him rounds.

That's staying busy. Munguia is a 2 rounder. Spike maybe 3 or 4.

Khan was a WW (recent JWW) fighting at 155 which is technically MW. It was a clear health risk for him.

Forget about Canelo, as much as I hate the SOB, I can't blame him for team GGG deciding between two gate keepers, when much better opponents are out there. If you are an elite fighter, you don't need tune ups, especially at this stage in his career.

You can't fault Gennady Golovkin for taking on a top class opponent with five weeks notice, yes it's ideal but given the scenario that has played out you can't expect that to happen. I understand the fan's backlash against Golovkin fighting the lower names but ultimately the man that has forced Golovkin into the situation is Canelo. I think we will see GGG take on a lower class opponent and then ultimately see the Canelo fight in September, but I wait to see how it plays out.

They are looking at realistic opportunities. Starting talks with somebody like Andrade one month before the fight date almost certainly means not having a fight on that date. No top MW who hasn't been training for a fight around that date can make weight comfortably enough to face Golovkin in the ring.

The cancellation of GGG v Canelo is a big deal.
Hard to fill that spot the fight was big.
I didn't think anyone would pull out due to money.
I was wrong.
Where GGG goes short term is anyone's guess.

BS.com has learned that the Nevada State Athletic Commission won’t approve Mexico’s Jamie Munguia as Gennady Golovkin’s opponent May 5 in Las Vegas.

Tom Loeffler, Golovkin’s promoter, is expected to submit the name of at least one potential replacement for Alvarez to the NSAC by Friday. If Munguia is on that list, sources close to the NSAC have informed BS.com that he won’t be approved because the NSAC doesn’t think the talented but untested prospect is ready for such a significant step up in competition against Golovkin (37-0-1, 33 KOs).

So Tom hasn't submitted any names yet, however IF he submits Munguia's name, sources close to NSAC say it will decline..

Lou DiBella, who promotes Derevyanchenko, has petitioned the IBF to either force Golovkin to make his mandatory defense against Derevyanchenko on May 5 or strip Golokvin of his IBF 160-pound championship.
