charlos really good but his best win is a very competitive decision vs trout where he couldnt drop or hurt him. i dont know whats with this stuff that hes clearly the man.

Canelo rematch aside, nobody is more deserving of a shot at GGG than Charlo is.

At 160, Charlo has done no more than Murata or Derevyanchenko. I'd argue both of those have achieved more at the weight, with Heiland being a cripple when Charlo beat him.

Saunders and Jacobs are way ahead.

I hope Canelo gets frozen out, unless he submits to genuine 365 Olympic style testing. Not going to happen though.

Derevyanchenko is getting way too much respect for a very limited pro resume. His best win came over Tureano Johnson who is clearly nothing special. In fact Hugo Centeno is as good or better than Johnson and Sergei's other wins are not nearly as good as Jermall's wins at 154 (Trout, Williams).

I honestly think Derevyan is getting so much respect because of his Ukrainian pedigree. He is riding the coattails of his more accomplished Ukrainian countrymen: Lomachenko, Usyk, Gvozdyk, Dalakian, etc but has done considerably LESS than any of them.

I never saw the Khytrov-Brinson fight so I defer to you on that one, But as long as you acknowledge Charlo's resume as deeper OVERALL than Derevyan's I can live with that.

Most commenters here never bothered to check Sergei's actual resume'.

Your comments about Ievgeny Khytrov being overhyped would seem to indicate that Khytrov's overrated rep ALSO came in large part from HIS Ukraiinian pedigree. The phenomenal impact of Ukrainians' like( Loma, Usyk, etc) has benefited lots of other Ukrainian boxers in general..

Charlo has the speed and technique to outbox an aging GGG and the power to hurt him. I'm not saying Jermall would KO him but Charlo could keep GGG on the back foot. Canelo couldnt really hurt GGG and if Canelo was to fight Charlo today, Jermall's speed would give him major problems, so I have to go with Charlo in that matchup against Canelo as well.

Sulecki is the wild card in all this. We're not really sure how good he is until we see him in with Jacobs

It wasnt just that Khytrov was Ukrainian but a Ukrainian amateur star. Ievgen's amateur resume was actually one of the best recently. Far better than Derevyan's. In fact Khytrov was Gold Medalist at the 2011 Worlds...the last man to beat Murata in the amateur ranks..

He's ahead of Charlo in the queue, based on the IBF mandatory being due before the WBC. I do rate beating Johnson slightly better than beating Centeno or crippled Heiland, but I wasn't basing it just on that. Sergei and Charlo are about even, in terms of worthiness.

You make some fair points there, but middleweight right now is a far deeper division than it was 5 years ago. (Martirosyan doesn't count, as he's a last minute replacement and nobody else was willing to accept the money HBO were offering)

The point isn't that Charlo is unworthy of fighting Golovkin, it's that others (namely Saunders, Jacobs, Canelo, Derevyanchenko - due to IBF mandatory being due before WBC, and possibly Murata) are ahead of him in the queue.

If they don't, it most likely just doesn't count as a defence for the IBF belt. Non-title fights are a thing. It shouldn't matter to the IBF, as long as Golovkin defends within the allotted timeframe, and if Sergei's team really do press for Golovkin to be stripped, they're basically throwing a couple of million down the drain. I'm obviously only speculating, but I can't see them wanting that.

Whatever happens with the IBF and Martirosyan, I really can't see that changing much for Charlo.

Very good point! At that time Golovkin had no choice but to fight this type of opposition and still had to fight tough guys like Rubio, Stevens, Murray , Lemieux and Jacobs till he got to the cash-cow Canelo. People forget that Golovkin was mandatory for Cotto's WBC MW title too.

Now Jermall has good opposition to take like Jacobs, Andrade, Murata and Derev.
