Here's a quick highlight video of the sparring session I referred to with Rolando Romero for those that can't be bothered sitting through the whole thing. Garcia seems very sharp early but Romero gets to him later on. Garcia definitely needs to develop an inside game.

He's still young so I'm trying not to hate on the kid too much, but his social media antics make it difficult. Mentioning Davis at this point is crazy if its anything more than self promotion. Gervonta would smoke him. There's a few tough, rugged Mexicans that you'd fancy to teach him a thing or 2 about pro boxing as well before he gets to world title level. Velez is a good step up to be fair.

Placed high in national championships but it was at the Junior (Under-17) and Youth (Under-19) levels. He was only 17 when he turned pro so he really didnt compete much at the Elite (19 and up) level.

2014 U.S. National Junior (Under-17) Championships, 125 pounds, 2nd Place
2015 U.S. National Youth (Under-19) Championships, 132 pounds, Quarterfinalist
2016 U.S. National Youth (under-19) Championships, 132 pounds, 1st Place

Interesting so far.

Velez took the 1st round & was winning the 2nd til Garcia shook him with a 1-2 about 2 minutes in.

1 apiece

3rd also a good round for Garcia. Starting to command the centre of the ring & land some good shots. Wobbled Velez a couple of times.

Garcia controlling it up to end of 5th but Velez wants to take him to deep waters in the later rounds

Velez has some f*cking chin & heart on him. Getting pot shotted but never stops coming in.

Garcia winning but not used to late rounds

Good learning bout. Garcia probably won 8 rounds. Velez never stopped coming forward & trying to win.
