Yeah I think Jamie will get binned by fast Eddie now. Frank won’t have him back so god knows where now
Such a reputation? There were just a few pals of his on here making claims he was knocking out champion heavyweights in the gym.ElJefe wrote: ↑05 May 2018, 21:42 Genuine question: When was the last time a fighter built up such a reputation as Cox had pre-Groves without a single impressive performance in the ring against half decent opposition?
Said before the Groves fight that his rep was solely based on rumours and that's how its turned out. When someone has been a pro for so long and hasn't been given the proper fights through the levels and instead sticks to knocking over journeymen for years, there's probably a reason.
Groves and Ryder exposed the myth imo. Might be a good gym fighter but that doesn't warrant the hype he had. Seems to be a flat track bully who has struggled with any adversity. He was up like a shot the second after the 10 count finished against Groves but I gave him a pass as the effects of body punches are harder to judge. But after tonight's stoppage as well you have to wonder if he just didn't fancy it on both occasions.
Plenty seemed to on here and social media. He pretty much got into the WBSS on the back of how good people were saying he might be, ahead of more deserving fighters such as Fielding and Ryder. So rumours of him beating up people in gyms seemingly gave him a reputation on par or above solid British level fighters with plenty of people.Coco wrote: ↑06 May 2018, 06:57Such a reputation? I never realised anyone believed them?
How did he get a world title fight?
Didn't Tony Bellew once refer to Cox as "the best kept secret in British boxing"?Coco wrote: ↑06 May 2018, 06:57Such a reputation? Are fighters really meant to 'batter' opponents in sparring?
He is responsible for low blowing Sai over and over again.WestEndRiot wrote: ↑07 May 2018, 06:20 I've never liked this guy since the Obodai Sai fight. Which I'll admit is probably a bit harsh considering he isn't responsible for the incompetent/corrupt officials scoring that fight.
Aside from that, looking through his record, he doesn't have a win against anyone that's even British top 10, so talk of him fighting for world titles was just absurd to me
Mmmm. I do wonder what would have happened if Sai had started fouling him back - having since seen the evidence of how Cox texts when under pressure, I now suspect he would either have got himself disqualified or ended up quitting.Horse wrote: ↑07 May 2018, 06:36He is responsible for low blowing Sai over and over again.WestEndRiot wrote: ↑07 May 2018, 06:20 I've never liked this guy since the Obodai Sai fight. Doesn’t say promising. I really hope Ed gives him one more go
Also it's not saying what shape both fighters are in. One might just be starting camp whilst the other is just finishing
I’d be interested to know exactly when Cox realised he could hurt Ryder, because to me it didn’t look like he managed it at any point?horndawg80 wrote: ↑07 May 2018, 08:16 http://www.swindonadvertiser.co.uk/spor ... _Costello/
