Jack Dempsy was once introduced as a Jew in New York.

In his autobiography "Dempsey" Jack talks about the first public appearance Doc Kearns lined up for him in New York.. He was about 22 and knocking a lot of people out... Some boxing writers already thought he was a sure thing to KO Willard... People were curious about Dempsey and wanted to meet him and hear from him... Kearns wrote a speech for Dempsey and told him memorize it.. "If you have any funny stories about why you got into Boxing -- or why you figured you'd be a good fighter have them ready. Make your speech. Tell your stories. Answer questions from the audience.. Then sign autographs and chat with people for a while. It's a couple hours and super easy money." ... Sounded good to Jack.

The first thing that scared Dempsey was the size of the Marquee... JACK DEMPSEY FUTURE HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION OF THE WORLD TO SPEAK AT 8:00PM... MEET THE CHAMP IN PERSON... Then Dock Kearns walked out on stage to thunderous applause.. People thought Kearns was Dempsey... Kearns gave a super rousing speech that Dempsey knew he couldn't follow... Kearns introduced Jack Dempsey as a Jew and that got insane applause... Dempsey walked out on stage scared to death from stage fright.. The cheering was crazy and brought the house down.. Dempsey was so petrified when he tried to make his speech his mind went blank... He couldn't utter a word... He couldn't even say "Thank You"... The audience yelled for a speech and started throwing things at Dempsey... They finally got the hook and dragged Dempsey off stage.

Yeah...Hebrew.

Hebrew: a member of an ancient people living in what is now Israel and Palestine and, according to biblical tradition, descended from the patriarch Jacob, grandson of Abraham. After the Exodus ( c. 1300 BC) they established the kingdoms of Israel and Judah, and their scriptures and traditions form the basis of the Jewish religion.

It's a common term used to describe people of Jewish ethnicity.

I have a Lenny Bruce comedy CD...don't really like his delivery. There might've been funny jokes in there, but I honestly couldn't tolerate his style long enough to get to any of them.

Never really cared for him, but when taken in context, he was shocking for the times.

Yeah I knew he got arrested for profanity and stuff. That's actually his legacy more than any of his actual jokes. The fact that he was one of the first comedians that cursed, and pushed boundaries. When you hear about Lenny Bruce you always hear about that...I don't recall anybody ever coming up to me, and telling me any funny Lenny Bruce jokes.

I own Redd Foxx comedy CD's. I be knowing.

My favorite jokes of his were these.."I was eating at a Chinese restaurant...got my fortune cookie after the meal. The Fortune said 'You will meet a Tall, Dark Stranger'...I was walking home later night. I met a tall, dark stranger alright...N*gga stuck me up. Tall, dark motherf*cking stranger he was"

That or this one. "People think that Cancer is the worst thing that could happen to you...I say bullsh*t. DEATH is worse than cancer. At least with cancer you can lay there, and watch color TV for a while"

Chuck, probably easier to name non-Jewish comedians from hat era! LOL. Did we get the Marx Brothers in there?

Milton Berle, was another Jewish comedian who had a TV show opposite Jackie Gleason... He used to tell this one.

On the 6th day God turned to the angel Gabriel and said, "Today I am going to create a land called Israel. It will be a land of outstanding natural beauty. It will have rolling hills and mountains full of sheep, goats and eagles, a beautiful, sparkling, clear ocean full of sea life for fishermen, and high cliffs overlooking white sandy beaches."

God went on.., "And I shall make the land rich in soil, fig, and olive trees and flowing with milk and honey. The inhabitants will prosper. I'll call these inhabitants Jews… They’ll be known as the most prosperous and friendly people on Earth."

Gabriel said “Wait. Don't you think you're being too generous to these Jews?"

"Hmmm.....not really" said God, "Wait til you see the neighbors I’m going to give them."
