If

If Alvarez had been Mayweather (exact same fight) he would have gotten a unanimous decision.

Not even sure what you're implying here.

He got a draw against Mayweather in spite of losing every round, and never being remotely competitive in the fight. The judges have always been generous to Canelo.

Mayweather won a MD against Canelo. What I'm implying is Mayweather won quite a few fights backpedaling and countering with one shot or two punch combs, covering up on the ropes, never really taking a risk for a knockout. Similar to how Canelo fought GGG. I think if MW fought GGG the exact same as Canelo he would go home with a win. Judges favorite.

There's a difference between backpedaling and doing nothing but defending, and backpedaling and effectively countering your opponent's aggression.

Mayweather often did the latter, Canelo has a tendency to shell up, and spend large amounts of time not doing enough to take close rounds.

I don't figure Mayweather would've had the strength to hold off Golovkin.

If Mayweather was a natural middleweight, sure. Being the size he is, and lacking in power, Floyd maybe takes the first round or two before being snapped in half and carried out on a stretcher.

I'm not saying Golovkin is better than Mayweather. He isn't. Just that size matters.

You don't beat Golovkin simply by outboxing him. You can win rounds doing that, but it won't take you through all 12. You also have to have enough strength and power to discourage him from using his own offence. Mayweather just doesn't. He would have been hurt. Badly.

On topic, I scored 117-111 Golovkin, first time watching. I've scored closer than that re-watching, but even giving every benefit and every close round to Canelo, couldn't see a draw, nevermind a Canelo win. 114-114 would be just as poor a card as 118-110 Golovkin would have been. Giving Canelo even a close win would have been equivalent to seeing GGG win a shutout. Ridiculous. The Jacobs fight was a lot closer.

Big difference between how Alvarez does it and how Mayweather does it. Alvarez can't fight three minutes of a round and fades in spots during a fight and did just that against GGG. Mayweather has hardly been tired and is way more effective at what you're implying Canelo does.

It would be a murder. Maidana arguably had a draw with Mayweather, so Golovkin would smash the guy.

Strong statement. I don't see anyone smashing anyone here. Great fight it would be though.

Judges have been more than kind to Canelo. The two most stunning examples being the draw he was gifted against Floyd on one card and Byrd's 118-110 abomination in the GGG fight.

If golovkin doesn't respect you he will throw bombs all fight. May weather would have picked up rounds early but he couldn't have seen the fight through all the way, as another poster says the size difference is just to pig a bridge. In a p4p sense may weather wins, but not in actuality.

I agree... GGG would beat Mayweather. He' just the type of fighter who could give Mayweather fits. Pressure; power; sound defense.

Dude, what the hell are you smoking? Even if Mayweather was a 160 lb. fighter, Golovkin smashes him. Golovkin's pressure is too educated, and he's an obvious p4p-level fighter.

Maidana had Mayweather struggling, ffs.

maidana is a mauling fighter who keeps the punches flowing. ggg picks his spots much more and would provide the moments of hesitation for mayweather to make his moves

GGG does pick his spots more, but I get the feeling he'd be quite aggressive against a fighter that he'd enjoy such an enormous size and strength advantage over.

That was for Vasyl vs Mayweather. It would've never been mentioned here because it would've been a physical impossibility.

My bad...too much posting on too many different threads. But...no arms no legs match would assist in making weight. The Monty Python move. (come back, I'll bite ya to death).
