Re: Eric Molina Banned: Failed Doping Test after AJ Fight

Eric Molina is trying to divert attention away from the fact that he contravened UKAD’s rules that he should have understood prior to his bout against AJ, by claiming that the banned substance he took wasn’t a PED, so he shouldn’t be banned.
However, recreational drugs consumed during competition, which clearly aren’t PED’s, are also considered as being banned substances, with the same principle being applied to supplements that may contain prohibited substances, such as those consumed by Eric Molina.
UKAD has had issues with athletes in other sports, such as cyclists, taking Vitamin B12 and they also published the following explanation of their stance during 2016:
“Athletes who wish to use, or are already using supplements, must ensure that they carry out thorough research prior to use by using tools such as Informed Sport. No supplement product can ever guarantee that it is free from Prohibited Substances, therefore athletes must assess the need, risk and consequences before making a decision to take a supplement.”
It’s clear that Eric Molina failed to follow this important advice and the ignorance of the guilty party cannot be used as an excuse to avoid punishment.
